First Road Trip....

Just took about a 500 mile round trip for the first time in the truck. about 150 miles from home i noticed a VERY slight coolant smell at the gas station. I popped the lid and saw "it"...the white residue around the degas bottle. I didn't notice it when i bought the truck so i'm thinking it's new. i wiped it off and drove the rest of the way home. checked it when i got home and no new leaks. the only thing i can attribute it too is about a 30 min 85 mph run up the hwy with about a 35mph headwind. i doubt that's enough to cause it to puke so do ya'll think i should go ahead and get it back to the dealership. i've had it less than 1 week.

It might not be too late to ask to swap it out with your 2000 you just traded in . If it still has some warrenty on the truck I would take it back in and see if they can fix you up.

Did they give you a 30 day warranty when you purchased it? I know some dealers will. I would definitely take it back to the dealer immediately. It could have stretched head bolts. Did you check the coolant level before you left on your trip?

Coolant level was good. I'll be visiting the dealership this morning. I checked the fluid level this morning with the engine cold and it checked out ok. the dealership took care of the degas bottle recall about a week before i got it. it could be a possibility that they replaced and filled the bottle a little too much so it puked. i'm still not a hundo percent convinced though....

too soon to go into total panic mode yet.85 mph, 35 mph wind. thats a combined speed of 120 mph, yeah she's workin, it could have got hot enough to spit a bit. you have to remember that working that hard your egt is going to be up there, and high egts can flash boil the coolant in the egr cooler, that might be all that happened. particularily if the oil cooler hasn't been changed, its very common for casting sand to restrict the flow of coolant through the oil and egr cooler. there is a specific test where they compare the coolant temp before and after oil cooler or something and it will show you right now if there is restriction
