fabtech 8

i should be picking up my 2002 f-250 CC this weekend and was wondering if anyone had experience with the fabtech 8" lift kit. i think i have decided to go with this kit and the rear springs. what i was wondering was what other components am i going to need in addition to the kit that comes from fabtech and will there be a need for any modifications to the truck (i.e. shaft length, brake lines, etc...)

thanks.

I have the 8 in. Fabtech kit on mine with the Fabtech 3.5in hanger kit as well for a total lift of 11.5 in. With just the 8 in. kit, you will not need to lengthen the rear driveshaft, but you will probably have to lengthen the front. The break lines and everything else should be fine. Personally, I would go with the 5 or 6 in. kit fabtech makes and get the hanger kit as well to give you an 8 or 9 in. lift. The 8 in. kit is a pretty stiff ride. With the 5 or 6 in. kit, there will be less springs and so the ride won't be so stiff and you will still achieve the same lift. Also, if you go that route, you may need an extra rear block (i'm not sure though). Another thing that will help the ride is if you keep only one shock up front instead of duing the duel shock kit. If you like the look of one shock, deffinately do this. The duel shock kit makes the front stiff as well. Hope this helps you.

wow! what are you running under that lift? i've been reading that 38's fit nicely under the 8" so I assume you've gone bigger. how does the truck look with the hanger kit and the lift kit? any pics of your truck? (my last truck was a f-150 with a 4" suspension and a 3" body and i never liked the way the body lift looked). and i do like the look of a single shock, so that is a plus (thanks!).

do you remember what it cost you to do the front shaft lenghtening?

Does anyone else have experience with both the 5.5" kit and the 8" kit? Is the ride that much stiffer? any problems going this route vice the all spring lift?

also, one more thing..... if i go with the 38's, is a 4.56 gear ratio enough or should i go with 5.38 (i see that the options on the ford 10.25 case is either 4.56 or 5.38 -- is the front case a 10.25 also?).

thanks again for your advice!

LAST EDITED ON 24-Oct-01 AT 10:02 PM (EST)[p]I am running Mickey Thompson 39/18-16.5. 38's do fit under the 8in. kit, but you may have some rubbing depending on the width of the tire or tire rim combo. I do have some pics. Email me at yelow1(No Email Addresses In Posts!) and I'll send you them.

As far as the price of the driveshaft being lengthend, it depends on how much they have to lengthen it, etc. I paid about $600 for brand new front and rear driveshafts so the front should probably be between $100-$300 I'm guessing.

The 4:56 will be just fine. Does the 2002 come with those options? 4:56 or the 5:something? the 2001's only came with 3.73s or the optional 4:30s. If thats true, I wish I would have gotten the option to get 4:56s. Again, 4:56s will be good because my 4:30s can really move my tires.

I can tell you there is a difference in the ride because I got two of the leafs removed from my 8in. kit and I can tell a difference, so just having the 5 or 6 in lift would be even more noticable. Also, like I said before, having only one shock in the front will help.
