What do you mean by no charging system? The truck cant always just run off of the batteries...something has to be charging them?

Yup theres some redecorating thats been done in there.

The rear lights could be something in the wiring right at the rear of the truck. Could be some poorly done trailer wiring by some other owner.

The no charging could be a problem with the alternator or the regulator.

Is this a problem that you had since you got the truck?

These trucks have an external regulator for the alternator mounted next to the glow plug relay. About half of it is visible in the picture. Check over all of the connections between the alternator and the regulator. I am seeing a wire that is modified in the picture that seems to go into the regulator, so the charging system may have been tampered with.

OK, there is a switch under the dash thats connected to the brake pedal lever. Follow the wires from that switch and see what you find. Chances are its been disconnected.

I don't have a picture of the regulator, but its the silver thing in the lower edge of your picture.

You can also check to see if the brake light switch works. Some times they can get corroded or dusty.

just looked at your wiring and that looks like a fun project i would probably figure out what they all run to and redo the whole thing the right way.it looks like a pretty good rats nest.you'll get it its just gonna take some time and you will have it goin again.
