2004 F250 with 130k miles?

I just saw an ad for a 2004 F250 XLT that looked to be in excellent shape but has 130,000 miles. The engine is the 5.4L. Should I pass on this one because of the mileage? The asking price is $6900.

do you know what kind of driving it had highway city? it averages to 32,000 a year. I put 25,000 on average. most of my trucks I gave to my brother at about 250,000 and still running good.
any vehicle you buy is a gamble to a point!

The vehicle is being offered by a dealer. He says it only had one owner for what that's worth.

mininum a carfax report and get the vin and ask on this site for and oasis report. I believe its a detailed histroy of work done on a vehicle as well as recalls. I believe at the top of this forum is the thread to it. Did you do a blue book to see what its worth?

i have a 2003 f250 with the 5.4 and it runs great. engine wise I had to do head gaskets at about 130-135k and one exhaust manifold. I pull my 9000 fifth wheel with the truck. and pretty soon I am going to be pulling my international backhoe/loader on a 18' deckover

What is an oasis report?
Kelley Blue Book has it at around $8900
I have heard of Carfax and I'll try to get a report from them.

Hmmm.... apparently you have to pay for a Carfax report. However, it says it has 4 reports on the F250. I also found another service called Autocheck and they say there are 8 reports listed. What's the difference between these two companies? Any one bettter than the other?

Go to this thread and post that VIN & your email and in a day or so the OASIS report will magically show up in your email thanks to some of the helpful members on here.

What they're doing is trying to get you to buy the stinkin report. Depending on what company the report is by will tell you the extent of what was done. By which, I've seen reports that will tell you every time it had its oil changed by x establishment.

But it should always have at least 1 known event and that will be when it was originally titled. In michigan it showed me a bunch of stupid stuff like every time it had its tags renewed.

If you are looking at this truck through a dealer, they should furnish you with a carfax report upon request. Based on what you've described I would be wary about this truck. Granted the economy stinks, but it is not like a dealer to try and sell a vehicle $2000 below blue book. They could know something you dont, i'd pay special attention to the ball joints, sway bar links, and 4x4 system (if equipped). The ball joints like to go bad by 130K, and through a dealer is right around a $2K job depending on which dealer it is.

Post some pics! I'll gladly criticize it for you, and I'm sure there are a bunch of other guys on here who would as well!

As for the miles, it's a gamble . If it was taken care of and or expressway miles you shouldn't have nothin to worry about. But if you don't know how those last 130 were...

Good luck!

The dealer did mention that a Carfax certified warranty was included whatever that means. He also mentioned that the truck was bought at auction so he probably doesn't have access to the original owner. I can't remember the last time I bought a used vehicle and I wouldn't consider this used of one but it's an F250 Supercab in the only color I would buy and in cosmetically good shape based on the following pictures. See ....

Scroll through the series of pictures. The bed even looks like it's in good shape.

Thanks for the suggestions regarding the ball joints and sway bar links. I will definitely have someone check this out before purchase. Is there anything else to check?

I just received the Oasis report. Many thanks to the provider. It probably isn't appropriate to mention his name here but I sent him an email expressing my appreciation.

The report was loaded with good information. The good news (I think) is that there was only one issue where Ford had to step in with warranty work. The ignition key lock wouldn't turn and the owner had to have it towed to a dealer for repair. That's it, no engine or transmission work. Scheduled maintenance was not even noted. Is this all a good thing?

I took a look at it and it looks good from what ya can see in a photo. I'd question why this truck has 130K and not a scratch in the bed? Perhaps a grocery getter. Personally I'd take it for a drive, wouldn;t be too scared.

All the problems I mentioned were pertinant to 4x4's I dont know as much about the 2x4's other than the twin i beams from the 80's F350's were indestructable, but hell on tires

Well, I plan to look at the truck this afternoon. Any other things to check while I'm there? Yes, it does seem strange that it has that many miles on it and the bed looks basically unused. The small box in the bed also looks out of place. The other thing that doesn't make sense to me is that it was a Ford lease vehicle (Red Carpet Leasing). I didn't know that many miles could be placed on a leased vehicle.

Forgot to mention that I believe this vehicle was used a lot for towing. Does that raise any flags?
