Step Side rarity?

I recently purchased a '79 f150 2wdr step side long box.My question is...were there many long box step sides built? In the past I honestly can't think of seeing a step side other than a short box.

yes, there were some long boxes built, but not near as many as the short boxes. I remember awhile back there was a classified here that was parting out the pieces to a longbed flareside......I have no idea if that classified is still there, tho.

btw, flareside is a FORD term. stepside is a chevy term.

Thank's for clarifying the Ford flareside difference.I truly appreciate it.
Maybe that's why I'm not getting many responses, lol.

Have any pics of your long box flareside?? They are rare and I can't find pictures of one anywhere.

I too would love to see some pics of this truck. They're pretty rare. Not many were built because there was never a big demand for them. If you need the long box, it just makes sense to go with a fleet side.

Better to go with a CHEVROLET?

A Styleside is a Ford, a Fleetside is a (gasp) CHEVROLET.

A 1973/79 Flareside pickup with an 8' bed could have been a special order.

If the DSO Code is 6 numbers, that's one way to tell.

If the first two numbers happen to be 83, the truck was purchased by the US Gov't.

If that's so...the original color may define what branch of the US Gov't the truck was purchased for.

Ford would paint the truck in whatever color the order dictated.

Usually a Gov't purchased vehicle will not have a COLOR code.

No pic's yet.
NumberDummy,I found a piece of paper inside the original owner's manual withe all the spec's on this truck. It show's the vehicle destination to be Canada, and it does have a color code.
However it does not show Flareside or Styleside.

I can't believe I missed that. "Fleetside" didn't sit right in the first place; thanks for clearing that up
