2002 Trouble Starting?

Hi...I could use some advice on what you all have seen with your 7.3's...

Condition:

Truck turns over but it does not want to fire off? It has been acting like it might not be long before it needs new batteries because it seemed to be turning over slower in this colder weather. Today it turned over but it would not fire until I started turning the key off and all the way on quickly...bypassing the glow plug system time. It would chug a few times when turning the key all the way over quickly, then it would finally take off and start after several tries. I also noticed that the drivers side window did not want to operate until the truck finally started, and then it worked fine?

It acts like one of the batteries is about done to me, what do you all think? I haven't seen this one before with my truck.

Thanks;
Bud

Batteries would be the logical place to start. I think you already solved your problem all by yourself.

Just remember, replace them in pairs. One weak one will just drag the other one down.

Thanks Lisa,

My truck just had me wandering if I was seeing the problem right with it turning over fairly well but not firing. I was thinking that I had read here a good while back where one bad one can cause wierd symptoms.

Hey...I like your picture and even the more better with the Smith & Wesson.

Take Care;
Bud

Yep. you had it right. A severely weak battery will result in a truck that turns over somewhat normally, but does not start. A diesel needs two fully functioning batteries to turn over in cold weather.

And thanks for the compliment.

Lisa is right. I'm on my way to Ford this morning to pick up 2 new motorcraft batteries for my wife's truck. The IDM has to see enough volts while cranking to fire the injectors, so the speed the motor is spinning isn't all that matters with a start.

My wife had to leave the key in the on position until the glow plugs cycled off to get her truck to start yesterday.
