Can someone explain to me what exactly is axle warp, what causes it and how you can tell if you have it? I've heard and read about it but I'm not sure exactly what it is. Thanks guys!
Robert
Please don't pull out in front of me. I don't feel like playing identify the pieces with you or your vehicle.
I think you mean AXLE WRAP. Axle wrap is when the rear(most common) axle pinion twists upward when you move forward, and down when you move backward. It's caused by a couple of things. One being the most obvious, Lift blocks. Once you get the axle perch away from the springs, it kinda acts like a big wrench trying to bend your springs into a W. Also just a big lift can have this effect. Two, huge horsepower. When you hit the loud pedal, all that rear end wants to do is flip over backwards. If your springs are weak, they won't hold the axle in place. Third, to put all those into one, if you have BIG LIFT + BIG HORSEPOWER + BIG TIRES that equals big axle wrap. It's harder to turn bigger tires, so the axle naturally wants to twist more. Anyway, to tell if you have it....get a friend to get in your truck and move forward and backward, and tell him or her to give it a little gas when they do. Watch the rear end. If the U joint at the rear differential moves up or down more than about an inch and a half you are fixing to have problems. Because what that does is cause your spring perches to become rounded. And it only goes south from there. The only way I know to fix it besides scrap the perches and start again is LADDER BARS. Give L&L products a call they make a pretty good set. Hope that helps. If it wasn't a typo and you really meant AXLE WARP. I have no clue man. If it's crooked, SCRAP IT!
You ran into the right guy. Hope you like this one. Bunch of places for you.
