Little story. I have a 2000 x with the 6.8. I have had it for about a year and everything has been fine, never lost a drop of oil. The dealer while doing a tune up for me broke my dipstick tube. They had to drop the oil pan to replace it. When they repaced the oil they put in the syn blend motorcraft oil. Immediately I noticed that it was loosing a quart in a little less than a thousand miles. I changed the oil back to my usual Mobil 1 after about 3000 miles and its still loosing oil but at a slower rate. I have looked under neath but the only place I have seen any oil at all is a few drips on the bottom side of the steering stabilizer tube. It doesn't look like its coming from the stabilizer but I can't find anything leaking above it. Anybody have any ideas why I all of a sudden started loosing oil. The tail pipe doesn't feel oily on the inside. Is it possible that there is a line up there, or I have heard of oil consumption going up due to PVC problems?
i know mine seems like it burns it at about 1-2 qts per 3k miles. no leaks and nothing at the tailpipe either. if you do a search, you will find that many people have this issue. i think that conventional oils seem to burn at a faster rate. mobile 1 (which is what i use) burns at a slower rate. people who are using royal purple say that there is almost no loss.
I own a 03 V10 with 104xxx and use 5w30 either valoline high milage oil or Ford semi synthic oil that the local dealer uses and have to add quart every 3xxx miles I have used full synthic and had to add more than a quart every 3xxx . I have been told that is normal because it is a big block. I hve no leaks
Oil loss is usually MUCH less with Motorcraft than with Mobil 1. You're the first case I've heard where it is opposite. In BOTH my V10's it has always been that MC burned or evaporated less. But anyway...
If the dealer mech can break a dipstick while doing a "tune-up" it makes me wonder what else they may have broken or disturbed.
