Yeah, Uhaul's largest trailer is only 6x12, and I would still need a vehicle to pull the trailer with. I got a few shipping quotes, $930 is the lowest I found, and that's assuming it would fit with the 38" tires. Fly & drive would be $150 for airfare, $4-500 for gas, plus the extra costs associated with a 2500 mile drive.

I really like the truck, aside from the fact that it's a C6 & not a manual. There just haven't been many decent highboys available in TX or the adjacent states recently. It seems stupid to add 50% or more of the price just to get the truck home.......I'm thinking I'll just wait for a closer one to show up.....highboys don't really need a lift & 38" tires to look awesome anyway.

I've towed a full size dentside with a uhaul trailer before........twice. One time it was an f150 with no engine which wasnt bad. The second time it was a Complete f250 with an engine in the bed too. Never AGAIN will try to pull that off. I was friendly with the guy at uhaul and he knew that the truck wasn't on the computer but he entered it in as an 80s ranger so i could get the trailer. I was towing with a 2002 f250 and at around 35 mph, the trailer would sway violently so i went at 25-30 mph from Kingston NH to Worcester MA with my flashers on n the middle of the night. Nextime ill just use my heavy equipment trailer which wasnt registered at the time. Absolutely do nottt use a Uhaul trailer lol.

Good to know, because the truck would have a 460 block, heads, and pistons in the bed to replace the 400 if it didn't get rebuilt. Guess towing is completely out of the question!

I talked to the seller and decided to look for something closer, maybe if I don't find one and he doesn't sell it in 4-8 weeks, I'll reconsider. Holiday flying is way too expensive to add to the costs for the next few weeks.

If you had a friend or knew someone with a larger bobcat trailer you would be fine, I measured mine after and it would comfortably hold the truck with stock size tires. I know companies like sunbelt rentals don't carry large enough trailers for our trucks either. I think my main problem was deffinitely the weight and I only had what should have been an hour and 15 min drive or so. It was the most scary driving experience I've ever had once it started swaying.

I have a good friend who has a towing company, and he cut me a nice deal on going to get it and bring it back for me. I paid for all the diesel fuel and $200 in labor which was a steal of a deal, and I had to go along and assist. We took off at 0400 and didn't get to my driveway until 2230 hrs. It was fun, but it was a long day!. (18 hrs day @ $11 per hours for a truck and driver, plus fuel)

Highboy1975 has it a little bit wrong I think. If you fill your radiator with straight water its boiling point is now at 212 F. Your temp sensor works off of liquid temperature, meaning if there is steam it wont read the temp only the temp of the liquid. What does this mean? Well your water is vaporizing on the cylinder walls, the temp sensor only reads 212 and your actually overheating the **** out of the engine. Stay with the 50/50 mixture or whatever.

I would be scared of the rhinoliner paintjob. At $6 a sq. ft., you are looking at more than it would have cost to paint it. I have only seen exteriors lined if they were serious trail rigs, and that doesn't look like a trail truck. It will cover a lot of evil, plus it would be major expence/project to get off to put paint back on it, if you ever wanted to. And him telling you the motor is up to the trip should raise a red flag to wonder what else he is hiding.

I tow some of the heaviest and longest vehicles, hearses, and have learned a few tricks to hauling heavy cars. First, ALWAYS put the heavy end forward, toward the tow vehicle. The more weight over the back of the axles, the more wagging the trailer will do. But you need to keep weight almost even with the front the heavyest, 60/40. Watch you toungue weight, don't over load it. Load levelers and sway controllers are worth thier weight in gold with heavy loads. Working trailer brakes are a godsend too. Don't be in a hurry, stay back in traffic, people really don't care if you are towing an 8000lb trailer. Strap it down so it won't moved forward or backward, have seen people strap down cars only to realize all the straps were pulling forward, the car wouldn't roll backwards, but the only thing keeping it from rolling forward was the tire stops, one good bump and they'd have rear ended themselves.

I have towed a 59 Cadillac hearse from Greeneville to Chas. with no problems. But a 71 Cadillac hearse from Raliegh to Chas. would only let me get up to 60mph (no load leveler,) I passed 2 people the whole way back, everyone else passed me, but I made back in 1 piece.

i've always been told that water transfers heat better than anything else. thats from a few chem class teachers. something about it more readily releases the energy stored as heat, thus helping the motor run cooler. i guess the safest thing to say would be to make sure that the rad is full, because if it's low, you wont get the right temp reading either.

just did some research, we're both right according to everything i've read. if you run too much water it will overheat because antifreeze raises the boiling point, but too much antifreeze is bad because the water transfers the heat better. personally, i run like a 60-40 mix to up the boiling point and all the good stuff antifreeze gets you, but blows off heat faster.

i was i a similar situation. I found it on ebay, and thought it was a good deal. I wouldnt buy it unless you see it in person. Mine had a lot of things wrong that i didnt think. He told me no rust. Yeah right the box was pretty much all bondo. I had to rent a equipment rental trailer and a trailer to get it home. And after that i have found trucks that are in way better shape for less near the area. I would just keep me eyes open in your area. It may look cool from pictures. The rino lining may be all bondo underneath. My lesson is dont buy from pictures.
