Yup. Sounds like a cross between a DC-10 and nice muscle car when I nail the throttle. Time to start slowing down on the project, the thing's getting too damned expensive! Or.... put more stuff on eBay and the FTE classifiieds... yah, that's the ticket.
Mike Troyer and I will be getting some dyno plots up for it soon. We ran out of time and we had very good gains on the dyno but the tranny wasn't dialed in right (it has a very high stall converter) so we didn't feel the charts were of a good enough quality to post (because the torque / horsepower curves didn't start plotting until they are on the way down. I think I'm going to visit him again in January depending on his schedule and my eBay success.
Its actually pretty tame with normal driving, nail it and it'll let you know.
I do have a funny story about the local fuzz. I was behind a guy on the highway (Stone Mountain freeway) who was going 55 in the fast lane. Kept trying to get an opportunity to go around him. As the road started around a wide left curve I had an opening but had to take advantage of it fast because there was traffic merging on the far right at the other end of the curve. I nailed it and the truck as doing 95 by the time I started to get around him.
Dumb move. Just at that moment I look over to the right and guess who's merging over from the far right...? Johnny Law. He heard the blower, that's for sure and his eye's were big as saucers as he turned his head to see what it was. We made eye contact and I knew my number was up. Lights come on, he pulls me over and I'm thinking about what an idiot I just was.
I look in my mirror at him as he walks up to my truck sporting a huge grin and I instantly knew I was off the hook. First words out of his mouth: "Is that thing faster than a Lightning?" Told me to take it easy and let me go. Damn I'm too old for that kind of non-sense (95 in a 55)... I've since learned where and when the throttle is appropriate because my truck might as well have a "pull me over I'm speeding" sign on it. That story took place not too long after I had the blower installed... couldn't keep my damn foot out of it. Then again, I've been that way with just about every vehicle I've modded... only difference is now I've got three kids.
I hadn't thought of an audio clip but that's a good idea. I'll get one done this weekend, weather permitting.
Hey, looking at your signature, sounds like you probably have respectable truck, power wise. Is it custom tuned? I didn't see that in the sig. The 7.3 is one stout engine for tuning.
I have been working on it a little bit as cash is available. Being more out of work than in work due to my physical condition, sorta dampens what I want to do. I would love to drive down to Georgia, hand Jody the keys and tell him to finish it. I want to keep the engine stock as possible, but would love to put a surprise behind the throttle when I nail it. I do have a five tune chip from BD but I just cannot seem to be able to make it work as I feel it should.
I have a throttle/power problem that I just cannot put my finger one. Everything I have checked is within tolerance. The punch back in the seat is just not there like it use to be. It will cruise a 90 (takes a while to get there) on the interstate and get 14 mpg doing it, so I figure it is just some danged sensor I cannot put my finger on that is limiting fuel to it. If I keep the foot out of it, I have seen it as high as 21. That is the WOW factor. 21 mpg pulling 4 tons.
Guess I am just going to have to take a day and start at the front, start a clean and check everything to find it. Funny thing is that there are no codes.
According to Mike Troyer and dyno results he's done they average in the mid 20s for RWHP. Headers aren't the first mod I'd consider with a stock truck, in and of themselves they aren't a huge bang for the buck. However, when combined with an exhaust, tuner, intake, etc. it rounds out a nice overall power package.
