I have owned and worked on quite a few aeros over the years, has anyone noticed that when you finally pull the no.6 sparkplug, its usually a original equip motorcraft. The other 5 will be some other brand. I have found those old plugs in no.6 usually have the gap eroded away to .085/ .095.and then these folks wonder why it still doesnt run well after paying for a " tune up". I guess its just too hard for some people to change it!........ I have seen this on 2.8s , 3.0s and 4.0s. ....Anyone else find this?
The pass. side rearmost. sorry for not stating in those terms. I have a spark plug socket with wrench flats on it, simply slip it on without ratchet and use a open end to break it loose and its out. never could figure why a shop cant do that, most of these vehicles had been fleet vans as well and were serviced by " professionals".
get a plug socket with a U-joint built into the top
Mac is about $20 but worth it.
Also a stubby fine geared ratchet (5* click for rotation) is a big help. I found I can access the rear pass plug from underneath the van, access through the wheel arch. This is also the area I used to route the pass side plug wires correctly.
I use a socked with the 3/4" wrench flats ont he top, and then I slip a 3/4" racheting box end with a swivel head, that makes the job so easy. In fact with the right tools, its easier than the other passenger side plugs. The other ones, you can see, but its hard to get any leverage on the wrench at all. Not that it takes much to get the plugs out.
