tire suggestions needed.

I am looking to replace the bfg a/t's on my 95 f150 with something more aggressive. I need something that performs better in the mud than the at's and is still good on the road in snow and ice. I would like the tires to be under $200 each, preferably WAY under but i doubt that will happen. Tread life is not a major factor,I put less than 3,000 miles a year on my truck. I read the which interco tire would you choose, and sounds like the SSR might fit the bill ok for me,what do you guys think? I do not prefer one brand of tire over another, but I want the one I choose to work for mud when I am in the woods and snow on the road. thanks for any suggestions!!

If you are looking at interco, I would say the SSR is probably the best you can get from them.

What size? Smaller "normal" tires really open up your options. 31s?

The SSR comes in some 31-ish sizes for a 16 in wheel.

the only thing with the ssr's is the price, i think they will probably be right at or just over 200 a piece...

how do the bighorns do in the mud and the bfg mud terrains do in the snow? I haven't had much luck with mud tires on snowy roads.

Just about everybody makes up to 35s. After that, the manufacturers are limited, so your selection goes down.

You can get 31s at walmart, costco, any tire store, etc. Walk in to walmart and ask for some 38.5 boggers and see where that gets you

I was just meaning that you could also look at non-name brand if your budget is limited.

I don't mind off-brands as long as they perform like I need them to.

Look at what the local stores sell in your size, then post up ones you are considering for opinions.

I just bought a set of the Interco Trxus MT's and they are working out great. Got a set of 4 37/12.50R16.5 for only $1050 through tirepackage.com. I found some 31/10.50R15 here Super Swamper Radial Trxus Mud Terrain for $137.99 a pop.

My choice came down to either the SSR's or the Trxus MT's I decided the Trxus would do a better job on hard slick surfaces like ice and wet rocks then the SSR's with the same mud, snow and sand performance. I just took them out in the mud last weekend they did a great job, didn't clog up in the sticky clay mud we roll in here in the pacific northwest. It's snowing here as I type I may have a snow performace reveiw tomarrow.

Oh ya, and tire package has a deal set up with 4wheelparts so if you have a local store you can just pick them up out of there invetory and not pay shipping.

Cooper makes a good tire. Or any of the radial interco tires would probably work pretty well with only 3k miles a year.

I have considered the Trxus mt's. the price is in my range for 31's. are the tires siped for slippery surfaces? I will be waiting on your review on these tires in the snow!!

Ya that's why I chose them over the SSR's they have alot more edges and more void to lug to grab on the slippery surfaces take a look on the Interco site TrXus MTTITLE | Interco Tire

I think I need to run to the store to give me an excuse to go drive in the snow. I'll leave in a bit and let ya know when I get back.
