its in the teens here and i cant get my truck to start good. the glowplugs work and its been plugged in is there anyway to get it to start easier? iv got somone coming over to look at it so i need it to start to show him its reliable
Check to see if the Block heater is working........ can you hear a hissing sound after 2-3 minutes of operation......
First make sure the BH red power plug is in the BH, then do a continuity test with a meter on the main plug wires at the grill. If there is no continuity check the wires for breaks just behind the 120V plug. Pull on the wires and you can see the break as the shielding gets smaller, cut off the end. If the 2 power wires now have continuity through the BH just replace the 3 prong plug.
Are the GPs and initial WTS light operating for at least 15+ seconds.... Is a clicking hear after light goes out OR a swing on the volt meter indicating on off draw.... this is good.
um i have a manual switch and i got power to my plugs and my heater is working its jus like 10 degrees here is there any tips to gettin it to start a lil easier?
ya i jus pulled a glowplug out today and yesterday i tested them with a meter and i was gettting power i no when its cold it takes forever to start could that b my problem?
Pulling and checking one plug that is good could leave 7 bad plugs in the engine.
Power to the glow plugs is rarely the problem.
More like the glow plug has burnt out is the problem.
Use an automotive test light.
Ground clip to positive battery terminal.
Remove each glow plug electrical connector one at a time.
Touch the tip of the testor to the glow plug electrical connector.
If the light lights, the glow plug is probably good, replace the wire and continue to the next one.
Repeat for all glow plugs.
At 10 degrees a couple dead glow plugs would make for very hard starting.
AT 0 or below, it won't start.
Best test for the relay, when you hit the switch to heat the glow plugs the dome light should dim.
If you have a volt meter, expect about a 2 volt drop when you hit the glow plugs.
so is it a good chance that my glowplugs are burnt out? cause friday i left them on too long and fried some circuits and i just now fixed them. last nite i cranked on it and turned my glowplugs on and off for about ten minutes or more before it started.
my cousin says its cood be my pump i checked i have power to my plugs and i moved it into the garage where it is 70 and even tho my motor was warm it woodnt start could it b my fuel system? like could my filter b clogged and not b letting in enough fuel?
well undo the fuel line after the filter and see if fuel comes out when you hit the key if not your not getting delivery if you do make sure you have power to the fuel shut off solenoid it would be the plug on the drivers side of the ip closest to the front of the truck i believe for it to work it needs a minimum of 9 volts.and even if its been in a warm garage and still dont start doesnt mean the glowplugs are good.the block could still be ice cold.oh and if your getting white smoke out the exhaust your getting fuel.
