Cooper STT or ATR ???

I'm looking to buy a set of Cooper 265/75/16 STT load range E.

Like to know if anyone has a set, and how bad is the road noise.

I'm trying to make a decision on the STT or the ATR.

Thanks for any help.

I have the STT and don't know much about the other. The STTs aren't overly loud, and they are good in mild/moderate offroad, and MUCH better than the stock tires in snow. I know that's not much info, but I hope it helps.

Ace,

How are the STT's wearing as far as mileage goes?

Subscribing to this. I've been thinking about the ATRs myself.

I only have about 10k miles, if I remember right, and they show little wear. I expect to get another 20k - 30k miles out of them; HOWEVER, I always buy new tires before I need them. I've sold a couple sets of tires to other people because I always change them early, so that being said, I don't know how many miles to expect. Your mileage may vary

I have been running cooper HTR's for 25,000 miles over the last 2 years and can't see any wear yet. They are much quieter than the factory tire.

I had the cooper STT's on my 06 F250, they were pretty good, road noise was not too bad. Wore good, had about 15k on them when I traded and they had a lot of meat left on them

ATR's great

I have a set on my nissan that wore out at 50,000 and i put a set on my wifes jeep. I'm planning on getting a set for my 05 250. the only negative thing is i had a side belt go put my garage got me a new tire for 1/2 price when tread was 2/3 gone. I found a guy at my work who had the same problem. for light to moderate mud snow rain they are great, an very quiet.

I have a set of 285 STTs on my truck now. The STTs are a LOT more aggressive than the ATR. The STT is a borderline mud tire. For how aggressive they are they are surprisingly quiet. They are a little rough at lower speeds (25mph-35mph) I've spun them up to 95mph already and they handle well even at that speed. Since your looking at 265s the tread on the STTs won't be quite as large and the voids won't be quite as big so it should ride better and be quieter than my 285s. Traction is great with the STT. I've had them in all conditions including snow and very hardpack icey snow already and they worked great.

I have used ATR's on about all of our trucks for the last 5 years. Good quiet tire. Excellent dry and wet traction. Only negative is the tread pattern picks up small stones and takes 60+ mph to release out of tread groves.
Tires have done well too on the dyno at 100 ish mph..

So you are pretty much saying if you live on a gravel road and like the sides of your truck maybe you shouldn't get ATR's?

I have had ATRs on my truck for the last 30k miles and I'd say they're around 1/2 tread or better. I couldn't be happier. The small stones comment is true, but not that bad. I don't think it's any worse than any other tread that is a little more aggressive than stock. I have factory mud guards and don't have a problem with them hitting the sides of the truck.

I'd rather hold small stones than the large stones my tires hold. My FC-2s held stones easier than my current STT. If you drive in the stones your going to pick some up, its that simple.

I have had the ATR's on for a little over a year and they have maybe 1/2 or a little less of there thread life left. They are a step up from the stock conti's that came with the truck. They have a little more side roll than I would like. The stones comment is true. The front of my trailer looks like it has been shot with a shogun and I have mud flaps. They are fine for an all around tire but I will probably get a more aggressive tire next time. I have had to put her in 4x4 a few times because of low traction on mud. They just spun and wouldn't grab. If I had a few hundred more pounds in the bed they would probably work better in mud and snow.

Are you sure you have enough air in them? They're an "E" rated tire and should have pretty strong side walls.
