I have a 89 F-150 2WD I would like to put 31" tires on my truck. Will they rub on anything? And would I have to change my gear ratio and will my speed be off any or RPM? Right now I can run at 65 mph at 2,000 rpm.
well, what size engine do you have? Rear end gears? yes they will fit. I assume you have 235-75-15s as stock which is about a 29 inch tire and a jump to 31 inches will make a difference, but very slight. I don't know if your speedo will be off or not because it is an 89 but i assume it will be by a few mph.
I have an 87' F-150 2WD with 31X10.5's. When making a tight "U" the tires edges rub against the radius arms. Doesn't put too much wear on the tires, and leaves the only clean spots on my truck..
My truck has a 300 six 4.9L and a manual trans. But i dont know the gear ratios. Where do you find the gear ratios? Aslo I have running boards on my truck, will the tire rub on it?
We have a '81 F-100 2wd with 31x10.50 and they will only rub at very tight turns. It also has a 300ci. with an auto trans. and theres plenty of power. no need to change your gears.Oh and they will clear anything else on your truck. good luck
my truck has 31's and rubbed only when i went over a big dip in the road, that was the old stock springs, now i have new springs and gonna get 33's. my father has an 89 f150 with the 351 and has 31's and there are no problems at all with rubbing.
1987 F150 2wd, 4.9L, 4 spd manual
3" suspension, 3" body lift with 31's
168,000 and counting
With a manual tranny you are all set, because with an auto the shift points get out of whack a little. The only thing you might see a problem with is your speedo, but that should only be off by a couple miles an hour.
So the 31" tires will fit with little or no rubbing. Thats fine with me. But do i need to change the gear ratios in the rear? How much power will i lose if any because i tow a trailer and don't want to lose any pulling power.
You shouldn't have a problem, you said you run 2,000 rpm at 65...and thats what i run, so i guess you have 3.55 gears, which, with a 31 inch tall tire, will be no problem at all. When ur on the highway, you might run 1800-1900 instead of 2,000 thats all. If you had an automatic, it would slightly change your shift points but i think you said you have a manual. You are good to go.
