Wal-Mart is the largest retail chain in the WORLD. And they are non-union.

As the economy has been on it's slide I've seen more and more Porsches, BMWs and Mercedes pulling into the Wal-Mart parking lot (I live less than a mile from one and pass by it on the way home from work every day) so I don't see them suffering any time soon...

Indeed. With the possible exception of Best Buy, Walmart seems to be the only big box retail chain that is enjoying a nice increase in sales compared to the same time last year.

It's my opinion that Walmart is one of the few stocks that would be an attractive buy in this economy.

ANY stock right now is a good buy. Sure you might lose a little now, but when it comes back it's going to come back with a vengeance. Them when it's doubled or even tripled in value you sell it all off reaping the profit. Put that in a high yield CD and make even more bucks. Then you put that in a savings account and forget it's there. Then you have a fund that you can use the NEXT time the economy tanks. This is just normal cycle we're experiencing now. It's nothing new. Look at HISTORY.... I forgot they don't teach history anymore, that and nobody seems to care what happened then.

A corrections market is normal. The serious potential for double digit unemployment is not normal.

Looks like Nortel is on the verge of filing bankruptcy. I don't think I would be buying their stock right now.

I used to work for an home/industrial air filter manufacturer and they once had their product in the local Walmart but it didn't do well. Why? Because the avreage homeowner around here is not going to pay almost 30 bucks for a filter that they have to clean, although it would last a lifetime and kill bacteria along the way.
The company had a very hard time getting their product in Walmart.

I shop Walmart only when I have to. I hate going there for the main reason that they closed the small store, built a supercenter and built that supercenter in area that's hard to get in and out of!

Chinamarts computer system is 2nd only to the Pentagon.

Chinamart sets the price they will pay for product. Rubbermaid wanted to sell to Chinamart. Chinamart would not meet their price, and wanted them to sell for less. Rubbermaid said they couldn't do that and still make a decent profit. Chinamart suggested they manufacture product overseas, Rubbermaid refused. Rubbermaid almost went bankrupt. I see some of their product in the local store now. Don't know where it is manufactured.

All stores aren't the same. Depends on clientele. We have two, one in town, and one out by the lake. Clientele in town are mostly mexican, and people with big asses and missing teeth. The one out by the lake is spotless, and has more of an upperclass clientele.jd

As a consumer Walmart has rarely let me down and more importantly as a shareholder for the last ten years I am happy.

I hate shoping at wal-mart. But I do, because they have the best prices on many items I need. Motorcraft products, ammo, bait, electronics. I don't buy food there, just because I hate shopping there. Too many people, not enough checkers.
