You will have to get the mercon tranny fluid from a Ford dealer (it is not available as an after mkt item yet). Check a local auto parts store to see what you can get the exteral filter for and maybe Ford will give you a discount on the fluid and filter. You will need to get 8 qts but add only 7. You manual will tell you the correct way to check the fluid. I will change the internal filter at 60,000 miles.
Better have 9 qts on hand, I drained/dropped the pan and did both filters and I ended up putting in all 9. I started with 7 and kept adding and like I said, until all was said and done I used all 9. But add a little at a time, easier to add than remove. HTH -Tim
You should be able to get the external filter (looks like a toilet paper roll for a leprechaun) from an auto parts store for around $20. I think you can get the internal screen assembly for about the same price from after mkt source, but I'm not sure. When you get your tranny fluid you may be able to get the Ford parts person to match the local parts store price. It doesn't hurt to ask. The fluid will still cost $6 to $7 from Ford. Good luck
Did you get your filters from Ford? Do you remember the cost?
Thanks
I got the filters and the Mercon SP from Dieselfiltersonline.com, a site sponsor here. I got them about this time last year and don't remember what the price was, sorry.
