my 99 zx2 will be getting both cv axles, drivers side wheel bearing, trans mount, and new outer tie rods, because they have minor play.
God alimighty i'm broke now
Then............ I thnk I have an accessory failing on me. The surpintine belt is quiet but is tracks funny. looking at the nongrooved pullies the belt wobbled maybe a 1/16th of an inch. Not clicking, not leaking antifreeze out of the water pump, not squealing. It looks like it just tracks funny, but when I rev the car up it does not change the way the belt tracks. If It is was a bad water pump, ideler pulley, or a tentioner. On cars in the past you rev them slighly and the belt will straighten up if a pulley/accessory is bad.Maybe I'm just paranoid. Any way to test a pulley, I used a garden hose and all the pullies sounded the same, not an odd pulley.
Thanks,
Dustin
That seems normal to me. As long as it's not jumping the belt you're fine. I've noticed a little play in almost every serpentine belt I've ever observed.
My 98 Escort SOHC had the same movement no problems during the time I owned it. I'm seriously wondering if your ZX2 needed everything you listed.. CV axles unless they were clicking they didn't need to be replaced. I can see the bearing the tie rods unless they have alot play probably was fine to.
Escorts are known for bearing issues and steering linkage problems. Always been a thorn in the side of most owners. At least you found out about it before something let loose. Bearings are also known to be a 'throw away' item. (talked to a few techs at the local firestone, they replace about 4 a month on the smaller ford cars).
As for the CV shafts? I've only replaced them when they are clearly bad. Given the fact a bearing is bad? Could it be the CV shaft(s) are appearing to be bad due to the bearings? I hate seeing people replace a part if it's not needed.
Tie rod ends yes- there is a little play
CV axles-? maybe that low speed hum
Trans mount -Definately there is zero rubber left and the motor shacks the car BAD BAD.
wheel bearing- maybe the hum, but goes away after 60mph SO.... i'm thinking cv axle
It has about 165k miles about 75% hwy
