Dumb hub question.

I have the switch on the inside of the cab with 4x4 high/low. Does this mean that I have the auto locking hubs. Can I just turn the switch inside and have the 4x4 option. Or do I have to turn the dial on the front wheels as well to utalize the 4x4. Didnt really snow all that much in the lower michigan area last year to even use the 4x4.

Thanks in advance.

The auto hubs have no markings on them and should be just a black dial. If you have a chrome hub, it's probably aftermarket and not ESOF. With the ESOF hubs, one position is auto and the other is locked. With the lock position, a pump under the hood sends a vacuum signal to the hubs and they lock in, at the same time, a motor in the transfer case puts it into the range you select. Then when you turn it back to 2wd, another vacuum pulse comes and the hubs unlock, and the transfer case motor shifts it back to 2wd.

In the locked position, the hubs are on and spinning the axle at all times. Then when you turn the button for 4wd, the transfer case kicks in and your in 4wd.
