I recently let my brother in law use my 1969 F-250 to move a table set with chairs he said the battery died ( because he drianed It From Trying To Start It or he left the lights on) Brand New Battery. so in the morning he went to boost it with jumper cables from his friends car he put the jumper cables on his friends car right but he hooked up the cables wrong on my truck neg on the pos and pos on the neg he had them on for bout 10 seconds he said when i came to pick it up
He said There was white smoke that came out of the alternator and smell of burnt circuts he said
i charge the battery in the morning and it lasts all day by morning tho its dead i was wondering if the damage was only done to the alternator or more things , all the lights still work radio and everything else
Try to disconnect battery over night after you know it has a charge in it.If it is dead in morning its your battery if it is stillcharged i would replace voltage regulater.
If there was smoke coming from the alternator, chances are it's junk...Take it to a parts store and have it tested....
Most parts stores can test the regulator also. Take it with you when you go.
I would change both of them. Also check the harness coming off the alternator for melted wiring.
