Cool needs a new engine

Has anybody had any luck finding a replacement engine for an 83 2wd Ranger?

Tour the Ranger boards anywhere on the 'net. This one is crammed full of those. You can fit almost anything you want in there including LT1 if you're not obsessed with Blue Oval. Next questions are what engine are you trying to replace & what tranny does it have?

Check out ebay or craigslist, local boneyards and papers. You can also get remanufactured engines.

I looked at your post more closely and thought some. Odds are, it's probably not worth swapping for the original specs unless you find a nice rebuild cheap. I'd suggest either a 2.3L eec-IV or any nice low miles v6. There will probably be a few hurdles of hooking it up, but nothing bad. An example would be differences of slave cylinder for a clutch. Around 84 or 85(?) they put that inside the bell-housing. An old-school 2.8L v6 could be good at Idaho ruggedness. A 5.0l Windsor block v8 could be a mind-boggling workhorse. 80's Crown Vics, Lincolns, F150's, etc. I say that with respect for the other engines. So far, you can safely haul anything you can cram into the bed of any solid Ranger & go.
