Looking at a Ranger Question?

Howdy, I'm looking at a '94 ranger, 2wd, reg cab, stick, 4 banger, 70K miles. Does this truck have a 5 or 6 digit odometer? I'm looking for a low maintenance, low dollar DD. Is the 4 cyl a 2.3L? Any issues with these engines or this trany? I've read but don't believe that this engine as 8 spark plugs, sounds crazy, is that true?!? The body has no rust. Do the frames stay solid when the body still looks good? I haven't seen this truck in person yet and was just wondering what to look for. What kind of mileage can I expect if it is tuned properly?
Thanks for any input!!

The 4cyl is either a 2.3 or 2.5 and they tend to be very reliable motors.

Yes the do have 8 spark plugs, and there a b**ch to change!

I've seen the little 4cyl ladt well beoynd 250,000. the only thing I would ask is if the timming belt has been replaced. They have tendence to go and is hard to repalce.

with 70k if it has had any oil changes at all it will be good for 250k+ miles easy. worst case is you will need valve stem seals from lack of driving.

Timing belt should be replaced it is not that hard or expensive to have done.

make sure the antifreeze has been or get it flusshed.

Change the atf in the manual trans to Royal Purple syncro max, well worth the money and your trans will shift smoother.

Rangers are tough trucks and as loyal to the owner as an old dog.

Because I own a '94 Ranger.........
When you update your signature it effects all of your post. In other words, I just bought the Ranger and this thread was started before I bought it, also happens to be a '94.

Those Rangers are great little pickups. I have newer 2007 that I got last summer. Love it. It has the 2.3 4yl 2wd. It gets 25 MPG most off the time..Seems like these Rangers run forever an a day. I see quite a few eighties Rangers running around. Many with over 200,000. These are tough little trucks that last forever. Congrats on your truck.

94 has 6 dig. odo, early had 5 digit ones.

M5OD tranny is good for 4 banger. With bigger engines OD grinding sound apperes.

Ranger's are great hunting trucks because they can fit through tight places off-road.

thin hands of musicant and *****'ll be ok! ore ask small monkey to do it....

BTW. having working on 4.0 SOHC I hate these hiden plugs. Aerostar 3.0 is hard to change plugs too.

Just got Taurus 3.8. rear plugs are nightmere.... had to remove plenum....

There's never been a problem with ranger frames, even when the body is rotted off, you should be fine there.
