So last week i was headed out of town and once i got to the highway(after driving through town and moving from 1st-3rd plenty) I started to pull out in 1st gear(5spd manual) and my truck started lugging down real bad like the clutch was slipping but i know thats not it, the revs were fluttering around 500-800rpm so i pulled over. it evened back out but then suddenly died and now wont start not even compression start. So now the real problem a friend that used to work at the dealership said that he thought the timing gears were my problem and that the teeth could have sheared off so here i am last night entire front part of engine torn off looking at gears that look damn near brand new. My other friend who has my truck up at his house in the shop said we need to take the ignition coil off and go get that tested since we know now the gears arent the root of my problem. The motor has plenty of compression as when i pulled the harmonic balancer off yesterday the crankshaft was able to be turned and the motor is obviously not siezed, and i could go all the way around and back to TDC.
Could my coil be the problem, i havent gotten a ride to town to get to the parts store yet to get it tested. Anyone have some insight or ran into a similar problem before.
Start with the basics and see if you are getting spark to the plugs. If so then spray some carb cleaner in the carb and see if it runs breifly.
What exactally do you mean the basics, or how would i test to see if i am getting spark? The truck wont even turn over however i am pretty sure the fuel pump is turning on, and i had the coil tested and they said it was good but to pull the EEC from the distributor and bring that in to get it tested. And truck is EFI.
first is it a carb or efi system? do you meen the starter wont turn the motor or the motor wont start? to see if your getting spark pull the coil wire off the cap and put a sparkplug in it. ground the plug to the block with a wire then have a buddy turn the motor over. if you see a blue-ish colored spark in the plug then its not your coil.
Yes, check the basics. I'm going to throw out "clogged catalytic converter" as just something to keep in mind. It could have clogged due to too much fuel going through the engine due to another failure. But, you have to get the engine started first before you can troubleshoot that.

Truck is efi, starter turns fine motor just wont start so im thinking it isnt getting any spark. Had coil resistance tested last night and tested fine. Im gonna pull the EEC tonight and have that tested and maybe TFI if they can test that as well. If none of this is the problem then i am at a loss cause i cant think of anything else.
Try replacing the EEC relay--it supplies power to the computer-Another bet is the TFI module on the distributor.
Yeah im gonna pull the TFI module tonight and run it into town to get it tested. I've been trying to find the EEC on the truck and in my chiltons but i cant seem to locate it, could you tell me where it would be. Truck is a '95 and motor is fuel injected 300ci. with a 5spd
no its a single tank. i think that it is going to end up being the TFI module or EEC, i just havent had time to tear into that because of finishing up school this week
my 91 300 M-5 stalled and did they same type of thing. There is some ignition box??? under the hood around the distributor that was literally broke in two pieces. Now i don't know what that box is called but im sure somebody would here. i also had it break down when the coil wire popped off the distributor. other then that a good tune up and with plugs, wires, dist cap, dist rotor wouldn't hurt either, however you will need to get it running first

ignition box? do you mean the ignition coil, if so i already had mine resistance tested and it iis good, or do you mean the TFI module built into the distributor? I dont think she needs a tune up i replaced all that stuff about 10000-15000 miles ago and i dont drive her to hard anyways. the heaviest thing it has ever pulled is my 20' speedboat for about 1 mile around the neighborhood since our tow rig is a '01 expedition.
