I took the rig on a 3 hour drive this morning and she drove like a raped ape. Turbo lag is fair, but once she is spooled she wants to scream "I want more fuel!!" The turbo has a really deep growl when it's not spooled. If you 1/4 through the gears you can really hear it. It wouldn't take someone long to figure out there is something mean under that hood. lol.
My smoke cleared up a bunch with this unit. I'm looking forward to getting some decent tuning and a drivetrain to match it.
I only tacked my downpipe in a few places just in case it wouldn't work. It vibrates a little bit a idle, but I think I'm going to have to live with it for now. It's not hitting the up-pipes or transmission, but the firewall yes. I need to go ahead and weld the entire connection because I have a feeling you can smell the exhaust in the cab rolling down the super slate.
The only part of this project that I feel is "coble'd" is the CCV. It's a tight fit with the intake pipe and I half-a## fabbed up a little pipe bung to run the hose out. I should have taken more time to make it look pretty but I was getting excited as it was the only thing preventing me from cranking it up.
I would love to compare your build verses my buy it build. What you did is well worth the money and time I am sure.
I hope everything I sent you and worked with you helped. It looks like you did a great job. I like the pics. Why is the Turbo outlet so small? It seems small then you upsize it. Do you think it looses much boost between cooler input and output? I lost 2 psi.
I am so curious wanna talk with you and see it for myself.
OH, and to add a question:
Obviously, you changed the turbo, Y-pipe and related tubes, and Pedistal. but what did you have to modify for the uppipes?
Thanks,
Dan
I'm not sure. My boost gauge only goes to 35 psi...
She'll start to light around 2500 or so. I really need more fuel to see what she can do.
So at 55 I run about 3 lbs, 70@5lbs, and she's stays between 5-10 lbs at 75 mph.
My old intercooler pipe on the hot side was a little off and I always thought I had a decent leak with the connection near the intercooler. I fabed up a new pipe and made sure she wouldn't leak.
In all honestly she's pretty responsive with boost. It will hit 2-4 lbs fairly easy, but has a some lag until it reaches 10 or so.
I used the up-pipes from the H2E kit. If I wear to do this again I'd lengthen them about 2-3 inches so the turbo would sit higher in the valley. A new exhaust mount would have to be made but that wouldn't be too bad.
Neal, I can't thank you enough for the help. If I learned anything on this project is that you never start anything this size before harvest. It felt amazing to drive the truck this morning. It's been August since I'd really drove it besides in and out of the shop.
The discharge pipe is small. The exit on the charger is at 3" and I'm not sure if you could make it 4" or not because of the bolt pattern. I suspect there is supposed to be an adapter there for those bolts then a regular exhaust connection.
Before I cranked it up this weekend I was starting to worry that I wouldn't be able to light this turbine on stock fuel. Luckily, I have big sticks and nozzles that help light it. It's just a little laggy on the low end but really not that bad. Once it's spooled it screams until I run it out of fuel.
I ended up spending a little more on this project than I anticipated. I have half of another kit that I purchased earlier that I didn't use. I'm sure I'd be able to get that off my hands as well as the old turbo, collector, intake spyder, etc. Oh well, it's only money.
Looks great Farm!! Glad to hear it works good for you even without a chip! That is encouraging to me on my project. My turbo sat on my tool box for the first time in about 2 months. Does that count as finally getting to work on it?
Do you have any pics of your mounting kit before the turbo is mounted?

I don't have any pictures of just the pedistal and up-pipes. You could easily lengthen the up-pipes and fab up a different adapter for the up-pipe collector to raise the turbo up a bit.
nonono
its in the "toolbox"
not the bench, or the mock up motor.
or any place else he can work on it.
Its just in a place where it reminds him he should work on it.

hahahaha.
Oh come on! My box is my work bench! I got the exhuast housing off today and was trying to get the compressor off but it wouldn't budge. I held it in place on the mock up motor as well. So take that William! If the snow would quit getting me out of bed at 3am and I could finish the remodel of our bedroom I might be able to work on my truck! Work is such a hindrance to PMS!
