what is the difference between parking lights, tail lights and brake lights?
the only guess i have is that tail lights are on when you turn your lights on, brake lights are on when you hit the brakes, but i have no idea what parking lights are.....thanks for any input
Parking lights or running lights are the side marker lights, front and rear lights, except the head lights. Pull your headlight switch to the first detent and your running lights will be on.. Thats all of the lights except the headlights.
Brake lights are the second element in the 1157 light bulb that illuminate when the brakes are applied or the turn signal is activated.
Two elements in the turn signal / stop light and running light bulb.
So when the running/ parking light are on (switch pulled one notch) small and larger orange bulbs in the orange cover should be on and also the white bulb in the small square next to the headlighs but headlights off. Right now my 93 f150 extcb 302 only the top corner white bulbs are on and only the small orange bulb in the orange cover is on. Shouldn’t both orange bulbs be on in the whole orange cover w headlights off. Jus double checking TY What front of my truck looks like What front of my truck looks like

Or act as a turn-signal only? I'll try to remember to check the action on my '92 tomorrow and report back, but if they are supposed to come on with the others, then there could be any one of several problems.
But the most common is simply a burned out bulb.
And to 78 4x4, there are also some trucks with lights on top of the cab. They are known as "clearance lights", but could also be called running/parking lights as well, and most would know what you were talking about.
Yeah, but since the OP has the correct vintage truck for this forum, and Aungeliquema happened to jump in with the related question, I figured I'd throw out what I know about it anyway.
You're right that it's out of sequence, so to speak. But probably no harm as long as 78 4x4 allows for the differences.
If it gets to be TMI I'll PM Aungeliquema instead.
Sorry i jumped in! I was searching for light stuff and ended up here. I will be more carefull. What the guy said was correct. When parking lights or switch is pulled to first notch, all lights are illuminated except the headlights. I use the word illuminated bc the larger blinker bulbs in the orange lens are not on, but the smal bulbs in the corner of the orange lens which are on, are strong enough to light up the entire orange lens and thus it looks like the the big orange blinker lights are on but they care not. I had everything undone and kinda forgot what the lights are supposed to look light. Thought maybe i had crossed some wires. Now everything put back together, lights rewired and looking bright and evenly colored on both sides. Thank u all for ur advice!! And allowing this post.
Haha! Thanks for that Rich. I usually try to note the dates, because so many get pulled up from the past. But this time I didn't even notice.
Oh well, it's good to refresh things sometimes.
