VW Question

I know someone out there knows the answer to this. We are trying to sync the dual carbs on our Squareback and can't find the info anywhere. Here's the ? we disconected the main throttle linkage to the carbsand there is another set of links that go from the top of the carb to the bottom we don't know if you are supposed to disconnect these too. When we do there seems to be alot of preasure on them like they're holding the throttle open and this doesn't seem right. Should we disconnect these too and re-adjust the rods to fit loose when idleing on any other carb you disconnect the linkage and that's where the throttle rests but there seems to be a pull on this linkage. Any help out there would help. The carbs are Solex 32 pdsit on a 1600 dual port
Thanks
RCC
