That is correct. The plan is to stop the production of the 6.4L engine in 2010(which sucks). At this point FORD is planning on developing(in progress) and manufacturing their own diesel engine(the scorpion) like they did the 7.3L engine for the new super duty trucks starting in the 2010 model year trucks. They have not renewed their contract with navistar(International).
The engine they have talked about scrapping is the 4.4L diesel for the 2010 F150.
I think I have all that correct. If not it is close.

Pretty much, except that the 7.3 was Navistar as well.
Thanks. Always a pleasure to learn more. I knew I would miss something.
No problem...and just for guys that are interested in ancient history. Ford put a 6.9l Navistar engine in their trucks before the 7.3. As far as I know Ford has never put a Ford diesel in a pickup.
I just heard as part of the bail out, the tough emissions standards are going to be dropped . I bet the 6.4 sticks around longer since it will pass emissions now.

I just read part of the bail out release today and didn't see anything about emissions being relaxed. That would come from the EPA not congress at this point. JMHO
Looks like the big 3 say they can't meet the requirements and stay in business. They want to relax the standards. Congress is entertaining the idea as long as the big 3 don't use the bail out money to sue the EPA over the strick standards. Tree huggers are pissed.
FYI the EPA was created in 1970 by President Nixon and Congress. Therefore Congress over sees the EPA. This could be and actual "act of congress" as the House and Senate are introducing Bills for the bail out.
There are tons of article out there regarding the subject...
DEBATE OVER FUEL CONDITIONS
But even before the final legislation takes shape, the debate over an auto rescue plan is already shifting the terms of longstanding environmental debates, especially over whether US auto manufacturers should be required to meet higher state fuel-economy standards.
"General Motors and Chrysler have said over and over in court that they can't make these standards work and stay in business," says Boston attorney Matthew Pawa, who represents environmental groups in lawsuits against auto companies.
I was offered $15,000 for my '06 F350 DRW lariat with 57,000 miles. I told them to stick it and kept the great truck. Now it is my concrete pump toting vehicle(among other dirty jobs).
I bet you get a better deal on an in stock 08. There really isn't much difference between the job # 3 08's and the job # 1 09's.
Tonight, on a trade for a 08 I was offered $12,500 for a 05 CC 4X4 King Ranch with 96,000 miles. With the sales tax benefit that comes to $13,275. I know the market is soft, but this truck is beautiful.
I to was slapped in the face for a trade price on my 06 F350 that is loaded with every opton you could buy. I am just going to hang onto this truck for 10 years or more not worth getting something else at this point
Glad to hear you have joined the 6.4 legion. You will love her. It is one hellava truck but man I could not let the 06 go for what you did. Thats just my 2 cents worth.
