I have an 89 1/2 ton 4x4 with a straight 6. I bought it this summer. It has AC...and i switched it over to R134. Charging system works fine, but it didnt blow cold air out, just hot ambient air being blown over the engine. Now that its winter and down in the teens here in Indiana. It blows luke warm air out the dash vents and floor vent. The defrost setting blows cold air...if I have it on floor/defog setting it will blow luke warm on the floor and cold out the windshield vents. All the vaccum motors are working fine.
hmm same thing here mine is semi warm....89 f150 4.9 in indiana its been cold...my truck doesnt heat up....is yours heating up off the C on temp gauge?
Simple to flush heater core, disconnect both hoses at motor, hold garden hose nozzle in return hose. blast away!, you wouldnt believe the crap that will come out!

Exactly...mine doesn't even get to the "N" on normal!
Flush your heater core out. Mine was blowing luke warm air as well. That solved my problem. If your thermastat isn't stuck open.
I was gonna try that but my hose is froze up. Guess I can bring it in and let it thaw. I'll have to figure something out. Its about 15 degrees out right now. Pretty sucky now that deer season is upon us. Barely get warm enough to go out and get cold!

do you have anti freeze in the truck? the proper amount?
garden hose is the one that was frozen i think....
and is there a way to test how much antifreeze i have in my truck? i know it has to have that bc it hasnt froze up
ohh and i go to TH South ready to get outa there hah
I'm running the big 6 in Evansville Indiana. Couple years ago, I had same problem and flushing the core didn't help. I replaced it for less than $25 and less than 30 minutes. While replacing it, I discovered a 3 inch deck screw stuck in the blend door. The screw kept the door from going completely shut. Doesn't take a lot of open blend door plus a really old heater core to keep things chilly. Everything was fine until a couple of weeks ago. The gauge started showing not coming up to temp, but the heater hose both felt hot. Replaced the thermostat again, and just for fun stuck a new sending unit in the block. Now the needle gets up to the M, and once the truck is all the way up to temp, it will run me out. If you change the thermostat, check it in a pan of water on the stove. Use a candy thermometer to see when it opens. The new one opens at about 200 and is rated at 195.
Good Luck Frank
