Pinging is still there

Ok I have done EVERYTHING. Rechecked the timing, it is still at 10*, run the SEAFOAM through it, changed the plugs to regular resistor plugs (AUTOLITES), EGR is working correctly and still have the pinging.

I does not occur when I first take off, even on a hard take off. It does it when it goes into second and I keep my foot in it. As I said the truck still runs great but this pinging is driving me crazy.

Does anybody have ANY other suggestions. I know this subject has been beat to death, but I want to death to be left here and not in my truck. I know this can cause serious problems so I really need to fix it.

A N Y M O R E S U G G E S T I O N S (PLEASE)

i know you checked timing, but try slowing it down and see if it goes away. it could be that some how it s firing before 10* TDC. also did you remove the little two prong timing retarder plugwhen you checked timing.

Yes I did remove the connector

The CAT looks original and I would take bets that it is. Could this be causing my problems. The P.O. had a 3 inch single exhaust with a Flowmaster put on but from the Cat back. I was thinking of having it removed. Would that be a problem or do I need to get a High Flow Cat put on there.

a vacuum gauge can tell you if your exhaust is clogged.

What octane gas are you running? I'm not exactly sure what's "pinging", but i know that if you're octane is too low it will cause your motor to ping. Or have you already thought of this?

I've got the same problem. I've tried EVERYTHING also and nothing has totally fixed it. My timing is now around 5 degrees and that has helped the most. I'd say it's 80% gone. No noticible loss in power or mileage either, but it bothers me that it shouldn't ping even at 10 degrees.

Try backing the timing off a little. Good luck.

Is the air pump and/or plumbing still on the motor? It has to be completely installed or completely removed, no halfway hacks with pipes crimped or otherwise plugged, and vacuum lines plugged or completely removed.

wonder if the balancer spun on the hub causing u to thing u have timing that u dont. I have seen it on a ford motor more than one time, i had to change mine because rubber was cracked and my timing was 10 degrees difference between the 2 balancers,i had to set it to zero to get rid of pingin and after the swap i checked it again and i was dead on.......just a thought

My buddy is having the same problem. We did a thorough tune up, seafoamed it, and its at stock timing and it does it. He tells me he just throws 93 in it. But thats the thing, he should be able to put 87 in his work beater and not get a ping.

My only guess is that it needs timing pulled or that there might be still more carbon build up. Also i wonder if doing the first seafoam could have clogged the cats.

And i wonder if there is something more powerful that Seafoam. I was thinking if this more powerful carbon cleaner was damaging to cats i could take the truck out where no one cares if a truck is revving up open header. And pretty much just undo the whole exhaust system from the header and flush the whaste carbon out without damaging the cats. just a thought.

I put in 91 and there was NO difference, I NEED to find what is causing this. I am going to check the EVR the someone on another post said to do it and see if that thing is the problem or not.

Anyone know if removing the CAT will mess with the computer or through lights, I have note removed it yet, just thinking of it.

Your truck has a MAF sensor, correct? Have you cleaned it?
