I have a early 7.3 7/98 f-350 4 door long bed. It sounds like I got bad year for a truck to make some good power.I'm new on the fourm.I wish the truck didn't have such a turbo lag. I have a built tranny Stage III, big air intack, 4in free flow from the turbo back, super chip programer.Wan't to have lots of power don't Know if I should sell Mine and start over. Please help.

13 months ago my early 99 was bone stock. Early 99's have a smaller turbo, but should not have much lag, smaller injectors (AB codes), 110 Volt IDM and a 15° HPOP. All this can be over come. The biggest power increase mod I have is the DP Tuner. Next best power mod was the new larger turbo. Come next spring I hope to have new injectors, 17° HPOP, PMT PCM and 120V IDM. The early 99 can be updated to a 99.5-03. Don't get discouraged. If you have a good motor you just need the right mods.

As for the turbo lag you need to make sure the turbo is in good shape.

To upgrade to a larger turbo you will need of course the turbo ($750-$20000) plus a 99.5+ pedestal ($100-$150), 99.5+ Spider ($???), 99.5+ 3" intake Plenums ($???), 3" spider to plenum boots ($25-$50), 4" turbo intake tube and up-pipes (bellowed up-pipes $350). I was fortunate and got it all used from a member of FTE. LINK to my Turbo upgrade.

Beans has a drop-in turbo upgrade for the early 99. LINK This would be the easiest and most cost effective way to go. The reason I didn't go that route was the price I got all my upgrade parts for.

Injectors - $1500-$2500+, 17° HPOP $350-$400, PCM $100-$200. You can modify your IDM for up to 140V.

The disparity on prices is whether you get used, reman, or new. If you find a good deal you can beat the low prices.

If you are getting 19MPG the motor is probaly pretty sound.

Hopefully someone will chme in who has seen some good prices or may have what you need.

Also will need intake plenums. early 99 had 2.5" plenums in the valley, late 99 has 3" plenums.

Used parts all the above can be done for $2000, pelnums, spider, hpop, turbo, boots, up-pipes, babies butt.etc.) Inectors are the big expense, at $1600 and up. When you do decide to do the HPOP order a modded 17* from terminator. About $650.

Brandon,

Just what is involved in Terminator Engineering's modding of the HPOP to make it better then a Bosch or Delphi stocker.

Robin, my understanding is that Joey takes a stock 17* NEW Hpop, and messes with the interals to be = to what a 21* hpop would be, if there was one.

Thanks Brandon,

Sounds like a swash plate mod. I have read that a 17° is about 30% more efficient then a 15°. An HPOP that was like a 21° would be all I would ever need. Forged rods or not I don't want more than about 375 to 380 RWHP. Got a ways to go but I'll get there.
