Cam or rockers

I was thinking about this one earlier today. My buddy has a 92 F150 and we are debating either 1.7 Cobra rockers with a Mustang HO cam or the stock stamped steel rockers with an aftermarket cam.
Ideally, i dont want it to have any PTV issues. It cant have a grumpy, hot rod idle. And i want it to have bottom and mid range over anything else. I figure the two set ups will be about the same price range but im not sure which one will get the results we want.

I don't think the cam will work because the truck does not have the HO firing order. You can replace the rockers but you will not hear or feel much of a difference if any.

okay, i will be doing the MAF conversion and the stock rocker ratio is 1.49 and the upgrade Crane Cam Cobra style is a 1.7. So it does open the valve more than the stock one would and it has a rollerised tip and roller fulcrum.

Econoline Energizer Rocker Arm Increased Ratio Aluminum w/Needle Bearing Fulcrum Roller Tip 1.7 Ratio 5/16 in. Bolt Qty. 1

VS

Crane Cams 36800-16 Steel Rocker Arm 16 Set16

Stock rocker ratio is 1.6.. this is a Ford motor not a Chevy.
The SD efi system can handle a cam with either firing order, we know this because the injectors are wired exactly the same on a 5.8 SD truck motors. The HO cam is a significant upgrade over the early 5.0 truck roller cam so if you have one kicking around this will produce lots more power.. with or without the MAF conversion! That cam still won't get you quite everything the motor is capable of, even with 1.7 rockers. The Comp XE grinds and others use a dual pattern with more duration on the exhaust to help compensate for the restrictive Ford exhaust ports, and more total lift, and are better as a result.

yeah with the H.O cam just switch the injector plugs to the correct firing order and switch the plug wires and go.... that is if you have a roller block..... i forget when they put the roller block in the trucks
