Question Dash cluster update

Hey guys, I won the auction on ebay of the white faced reversed lit gauges. I got them today. It kind of looks like a little kid put the white faces on there, as they are not centered at all. That aside, the question I have is: on the white face it says diesel fuel only. I know they are JUST faces, and the guy swears that they came out of a gas truck. Does anyone know the part# so I can tell if they are gas or diesel?? The main reason is, it has a tach, and I'm pretty sure if they are diesel, they WONT work in my truck.

Second, does anyone else have reverse lit gauges? I havent taken the lens off yet, but I have some wires hangin out the back of the gauges, they all go together and come together into 2 wires. What do these wires connect to? I assume they connect to the parking light circuit, and ground, but am not sure.

Thanks guys

Uh, oh...I think you might have gotten partially hosed. I have some white-faced electroluminescent gauges on my '89, and on mine, all those wires connect to a power inverter about the size of a matchbox, and also go through a dimmer ****. Basically, I'm saying that without the inverter, they're not gonna work.

This is something like what you're now looking for...whether or not the exact piece is what you need or not, I don't know. eBay Motors: UNIVERSAL EL GLOW GAUGES 12 VOLT POWER INVERTER (item 290276946901 end time Dec-20-08 22:40:10 PST)

Good luck...

Question

Yep, youre probably right, the connectors look the same as the pic you showed me. I found a sticker on the top of it that said "unleaded fuel only" on the ford cluster part. The "overlays" says diesel only on it, so its WRONG.

Anyway, cay I just use the original lights? I'm goin to take it apart and see what I have. I may have my little bro send him an email and tell him he left the box in the truck?

Thanks so much for the new info. I didnt know anything about it all.

Later dude

Well, if you take the overlays off, then you'll have normally-lit gauges (there I go stating the obvious again...). But if your original instrument panel didn't have a tach, then you may have to switch some wires around on the plug(s) to make your new IP work. I think your best best there would be to do a search...others have covered the switch before.

As far as getting the inverter box from the eBay seller, I wish you luck. For all we know, he lost it, or threw it away, or whatever stupid people do with electronic parts. On the upside, you'd be out $10 for the one in that auction link I posted. Hell, for that price, I might buy myself a spare...for whatever reason, my gauge overlays crap out once or twice a year, and that condition might last a few days to a couple weeks. Then, like magic, they just come back. From what I've read, that seems to be a fairly common complaint.
