Hello fellow truckers! I just bought a nice 88 F150 2wd. The motor has been swapped out and it is a 302 or a 351 but i can not tell. Is there a easy way to tell the diffrence?
Yes, the 302 is narrow, and the 351 is wide. Just look at where the intake manifold meets the heads, if its short like 4 inches its the 302, if its like 6-7 its the 351. What was orig to the truck?
shudnt it say 5.0 or 5.8 on the intake?
idk im a 4.9 kinda guy and they were INLINE SIXES not a v
take apic and post it up here im sure someone can tell you
The easiest way to definately tell a 351W from a 302 is to look at the lower bolt on the thermostat housing, if you would have to use a wrench to get to it then it's a 302. If you can get a straight shot at it with a deepwell socket or an extension (providing there are no brackets in the way, you get the idea) anyway, you can plainly see the bolt above the water pump on a 351W but NOT on a 302.
That's the way I tell them apart and it's the easiest way I've found.
why does everyone call em 4.9 v6? they dont even slightly resemble a v block im a 300 nut and i get alot of that at school the famous "300 v6" or the "302 inline 6" LOL
