I have a set of 16x10 wheels on my 86 f-350. I currently have 35x1250x16 supper swamper tires on it. I want to down size the tires and was wondering what will work. I was thinking maybe 33x1150x16. The main reason for the change is they scrub the fenders sometimes and ride real rough. I want to go with a all terrain tire as well not the mud tires.
Ride? Only when you mount them and drive will you know for sure.
If you off road and get into rocks, the wide rim isn't your friend, as it's out there for the rocks to hit, and it makes it easier to pinch the sidewall on the rim.
But that doesn't sound like an issue for you, so I think you'll have ok luck with the smaller tire.
Don't come looking to burn me out if it sucks though....
People have been known to put 8 or 9 inch wide tires on 10" rims. In your case, the 11.50s ok, probably 10.50s ok too. These are nominal sizes anyway, so one may work better than the other, depending on the actual cross section width.
