poor fuel millage.

poor fuel millage.

I have 01 f350 and i get around 300-370- miles out of a full tank.Im not shure what size my tank is but i think its 38 gal if thats the case im only getting 10 or so mpg.Is this right or is there some thing wrong?my truck is a 4door extended cab with a short box,so im not shure on tank size.Also how serious is the "valley pan oil leak" i think thats what its called.I was looking under my hood the other day and i noticed alot of residue on the rubber booots that come off the turbo to the intake on the motor.So i started to look around and the one sied rite below the valve cover u can see were its wet with oil.Its not leaking bad ithe dipstick says i havent lost any oil and its not leakyng down on the bell housing like i have heard it can. any info would be great.Im new to the diesel world so i dont now much about them.Also my truck has 90k on it.

First Off: Welcome to FTE!

I think the tanks are only 35gal... Do you have a programmer, intake or any other mods done to the truck?

I would start by tightening those clamps, well everywhere.

Second what I would do is fill your tank right up to the max (it can take a few minutes to fill it up right to the brim, after the pump clicks off) and get a slightly more accurate reading of your fuel mileage.

That 70 miles makes quite a difference when figuring out mileage.

Also remember that winter diesel is upon us now, and mileage does go down in the winter time.

What gears do you have? And when you average your fuel consumption out, is that mainly highway?

Also, when you looked in the valley, are you sure it was oil? My dads truck has a little diesel in the valley of his, and needs some o-rings replaced, and from the little bit of diesel all over, the dust really sticks to it...

im shure its oil,if u were to look at the bottom of the valve cover go down about 1in and thats were its leaking.right were 2 parts come to gether.damn this is hard to explain.Aslo were is the best place to look for a a tuner and gauges?im on a buget of about 1grand.

If its oil, then thats where my limited knowlege ends! Someone will be able to help ya out with that though

Tuner, the ones most reccomended on here are dp, and TW, as for gauges, there are a whole bunch of them. Check out sites like diesel manor, itp diesel.

im looking at the diablosport the tsperformance and the edge evolution 2. i like the sounds of the edge evolution 2 the best.ill go check out the dp tuner.

For a tuner go with the DP, none better available for a 7.3. For gauges Isspro and Dipricol tend to be the favorites.
Is your oil leak coming from the back of the motor or the front?

the leak is running the whole lenght of it.it looks like a vavle cover leak on a 350 chevy but its not the valve cover

You have a 29 gallon tank.

Which side of the motor do you see the oil on? Could be bad HPOP O-rings. Are you 100% sure its oil and not diesel fuel?

dont feel bad. i only get 8 mpg i have not been able figuer out what in the world is wrong so i just gave up.
