What are the biggest tires i can fit on my bronco?

Hey ya'll I got an '93 Ford Bronco XLT everything on it is stock no lift or anything. I need more ground clearance so i dont always bottom out in the mud but i cant afford both tires and a lift, and i would rather fill the wheelwells anyways so... my question is what is the biggest tires i can fit on my truck w/o a lift? (I don't mind cuttin out part of the wheelwells).

How big do you want to go? How much care do you have of turning radius and sheet metal damage? You can put up to a 35 in tire on the stock truck but you will have rubbing issues like no other. 33s are probably the largest you can go an still not do alot of damage to the vehicle with no mods to the body and suspension.

Now if you are willing to cut, trim, remove, or what ever. You can put 44s on with alot of back spacing to clear the frame of the truck if you so desire. Just what are you willing to do? What are you willing to make look like &*@&$ to make them fit?

In response to alxsnmr I'm willing to cut out the wheelwells and about 2 in on the fenders but no more. i have sum 35x12.50 procomp xterrains just sittin at my house so id really like to be able to use those, I dont need 44's all i need is about 3 more inches of ground cleance for my axles.

And in response to UTFball 68 the procomps i have, have about 1/2 tread on them and they are free. So I'd rather not wait.

Without re-gearing its pointless to go bigger than about 32's. 33's and up with 3.55 gears turn the truck into a mouse. Hill-climb and passing power are right out the window. Not to mention that the E4OD will "hunt" gears something awful because the engine is so far out of its power band. (Yes, this is a personal experience).

If you plan on adding the necessary lift and re-gearing appropriately, you can go as far as 35's-36's on the D44 and 8.8 axles but bigger than this and you need to deal with heavier axles to handle the weight and stresses of slinging around such heavy tires. The D44 and 8.8 will start breaking things when you get bigger than 36's.

Remember too that the stock alloy wheels are only 15 x 7 5/8" and the steels are 15 x 8 so your tire warranty is void if you try to stuff anything wider than 10.5" section width tires on them. Yes, this is a fact, read the fine print on your tire warranty.

Short answer, enjoy the 31's or 32's unless you plan on doing the rest of the job to make the truck ready for larger tires.

I recently installed the 33x12.50-15 BFG AT KOs I found on craigs list on the stock rims and no lift on my 91. The biggest issue I ran into is the tire rubbing issue. The easiest "cheap" fix is to put in longer bolts in the stearing stops and adjusting until the rubbing on the suspension pieces is removed. A bigger concern if you have an anti sway bar on the front because even more adjusting is needed. Now the truck turns like a semi, instead of a short wheel based bronco. :-( The tires look good but turning sucks on it, as for the gearing and the C-6 that replaced the E4OD, eh it wasnt a race car to begin is all I got to say.

Yeah, dropping the OD will help in this situation. I personally don't enjoy the loss of power and increased fuel consumption from the gear hunting.

Ive had 33s on my 96 for 2 years with no gear change and wheels just fine and goes down the road just fine with passing power. 33x12.5x15 on chrome steel wheels no problems. These are for sale by the way now with new tires. went with 18" wheels and nitto terra grapplers.

I am running 33's with 10" rims and no lift. I had to trim my bumper, but other than that there are no serious rubbing issues. I have run 31's and 32's before. I agree that once you go above 32's, you do notice a loss of performance, especially on the low end. My gsa mileage was not really affected that much when I went to 33's. Larger tires do tend to "track" a lot. That plus the fact that these trucks have loose steering to begin with keeps you alert behind the wheel..

265s isnt alot of information, that is roughly a 9 to 10 inch wide tire, the aspect ratio plus rim diameter will give a better guess on what size you currently have on the truck. Please provide that but most 265s I have seen are close to 31s.

I say go with 32 11.50 15 or wait until you have a small lift to use the 35 inch tires. With 35 inch tires you will need 4.10 gears or better. Don't cut the fenders. Then if you ever want to sell it no one will want it.
