Yeah, I'm hoping it'll workout, it was an "impulse buy" and after checking around, seems like I got quite the deal.
The MBRP exhaust was a "no brainer" as I can see MANY people on here have the same setup...I hope the install is easy because I've had a hard week already!
The exhaust is pretty simple and straightforward. Sounds awesome too. Good deep throaty rumble at 2200-3500 rpm. Mileage sucks in that range, but it sounds cool. LOL
You say the mileage sucks in that RPM range?? OH, that's on the higher range of teh RPM scale for these motors...I think I get your comment then. DUH!!
I'm used to engines that run up past 7K RPM. ...this is my first diesel!
Yeah, the exhaust install looks pretty easy but I do not want to CUT-UP my old system so I'm going to support the transmission and pull the crossmember out so I can get the pipe from the turbo to the cat out in one piece to save it.
Otherwise, the job looks straight forward, have to cut one pipe to length though - will probably mark it, borrow my neighbor's F-150 (yeah, I'll be "slummin' it" ) and take it to an exhaust shop to be cut "nicely".
I marked mine and just used a cut-off wheel. It shouldn't take too much longer to pop the crossmember on and off. Just remember to install the whole exhaust before you get any of the clamps tightened down. And tighten the two bolts on the CAT evenly when you put the nuts on. And yeah the upper RPM range is where the exhaust note gets real sweet 3000 rpm and she sounds AWESOME. LOL.
I am looking at the SCT #3000 Programmer, the previous owner had it on
a 2004 F-150 (custom tunes). It is unlocked,
How hard is it to re-program to work with my Diesel?
hangon2me, I don't know...that's why I'm waiting to get this thing to find out. If the tuner is not VIN locked, you are supposedly able to use it on several other Ford vehicles. The guy that sold me the SCT Livewire system says it was a "demo" system in their shop's 7.3L and once they detune that truck the programmer will unlock and I can use it on my 6.0, a Mustang, Cobra, etc. but only ONE vehicle at a time...hard to believe but I really have NO clue.
We'll see.
Fireman660 - WHAT CAT bolts?
06 Beast, I would never drive a Cummins...although someone who lives nearby has one that is Gawd-aweful FAST!! ...we were screwing around on a back road one day and he blew my friggin' doors off...like a Porsche to a Yugo...it was sick...
I ate up a Porsche Boxter this summer, and I am not Tuned yet.
I had a 2004 KR w/6.0L with the Edge Juice and blew the doors off a C-5
corvette.
Blew the Transmission, now I drive a 2005.
I received the SCT Livewire tuner last week...haven't installed my new exhaust just yet but plan to this Thursday as we'll have 60deg. weather!
I briefly read through the owner's manual and yes indeed, it does have "canned" software and will program (one vehicle at a time) almost the entire fleet of Ford vehicles up to 2006 (from memory) as the 2007 and above controller is a different part #.
It will program a 7.3L as well as a 6.0 - not to mention a Mustang, Cobra, Crown Vic, etc.
Again, plan to install the exhaust this Thursday and will put my Predator on Phase III (100hp) to see the difference after running around on the mode I've been using for over 3 years (60hp mode). Want to see if I notice a difference on 60hp mode with the new exhaust...will drive it to work once or twice then pop it up to 100hp mode and see if that's fun.
After a few days of playing around I'll unload the Predator flashes and play with the SCT tuner. Supposedly the "Performance/Race" mode on this puppy yields 160hp??
