My passenger door doesn't shut as tight as it could, and it rattles when I drive. It stays shut and all, but it's getting a little annoying. I've heard that you can "unscrew" that bolt that the door latches on to (that twelve-point-screw/**** looking thing that I guess you could call the door catch?), and then you can move it and allow your door to shut tighter. One problem: Even though I don't have a twelve-point torque head thing, I do have a few that fit nice and snug, and when I try to unscrew the thing, it feels like my steel wrench is going to break off in my hands. I've read that car companies used bolts like this for "tamperproof applications," so how do I tamper with it?
CALEB,
IT SOUNDS LIKE THE PLASTIC BUSHINGS ON THE DOOR STRIKER ARE EITHER BROKEN OR MISSING. THE STRIKER HAS A PUSH ON CRUSH WASHER THAT MAKES THE STRIKER REAL TIGHT. BEFORE YOU TAKE THE STRIKER OFF MAKE SURE YOU MARK IT WITH A MARKER SO IT GOES BACK IN THE SAME SPOT. IF YOU CAN'T FIND THE REPLACEMENT PUSH WASHER YOU CAN FINAGLE THE OLD ONE TO WORK. IF YOU SCREW-UP THE STRIKER YOU CAN GET REPLACEMENTS WITH THE STRIKER AND WASHER FROM WWW. DORMAN MFG.COM GO TO DORMAN'S WEBSITE PUT IN THE INFORMATION AND IT WILL TELL YOU WHERE YOU CAN GET THEM RIGHT AROUND WHERE YOU LIVE. GOOD LUCK chickade116
