i have a 2007 f250 hd 4wd i am trying to do ball joints out but can`t get the axle out i have tried prying the axle out but did not budge. i have done these in older fords but have never had a problem with the axle. i think the seal is just stuck but did not want to damage anything
I had a heck of a time getting my axle seal out of the steering knuckle to get the axle out. I used a drift to hammer it out from the inside. It did suffer a little damage but because I have the manual engagement I reused it after a little "adjustment".
Others on the site have had no issues removing theirs. Mine is an '03.
Just a note; the dealer replaced my leftside ball joints and nine months later they went bad. The dealer had a 12 month or 12K warranty, I put 15K on and they would not consider helping me out with any warranty. I purchased my new joints from NAPA, their best, greasable, and did the work myself. It took about 3 hours start to finish.
I hit the axle yoke flange on the stubby (hub) side. I hit it at the flats between the bearing cups. I did miss a couple of times and did hit the seal; I just straightened it out.
