Really looking to replace my front rotors. Driver's side one is chewed up from some crappy brake pads. Also going to get some ceramix pads.
Has anyone used Duralast hub/rotor combo's on the 2004+ F-150's? The reason I ask is price. They are $89 each compared to Napa's $189 a piece? I understand the saying you get what you pay for. But with brake rotors....come on..anyone have some input here?
I used the duralast rotors and the gold pads on my wifes Honda minivan. Seems to be good stuff, no noise, no vibrations and low brake dust (not none, but WAY less than the stock pads). Just my experience with them.
Brake rotors can have HUGE differences in quality, not only in the metal they're cast out of, but the tolearances they're ground to, and the durability long term. I put two sets of rotors onto my gf's grand am before i finally stepped up and put on cross drilled rotors, 2 sets in 20,000 miles, or 1 set and they've been on 25000 miles now with 0 problems
Funny this post is up.. I as well will be replacing my rotors and pads this weekend on my 06-FX4 and i went to napa and i was told 120 a rotor so i called a friend of mine where i use to work at a car dealership and i tell him what i need. So he calls napa and dealer ost was 46.25 for the same rotor i was told 120 for. That just goes to show you the mark up... I know i did it for 7+ years... everone has to make a buck but come on.. Thats one hell of a mark up. So for 98.99 i have the rotors insted of 230.00...
Noticable difference in braking. Seems like a good set of brakes and rotors. Time will only tell how they wear. Very satisfied so far, and also saved a bunch of $$$
I plan to replace the pads only on my truck this coming weekend. rotors look to be in good shape. Is this bad idea? Reason i ask most of you seem to be changing both. I remember on my other trucks the rotor had enough to go through aleast two set of pads.
nothing wrong in doing that if your rotors aren't chewed up. My driver's side rotor was all chewed up. If you replace one rotor, typically its a good idea to replace both sides for even wear. Not to mention I shopped around and got the duralast rotors and pads so it didnt break the bank to bad.
Be prepared with the necessary tools if you havent done the job before and if your truck was like mine. I need an impact wrench, 36MM socket, and heavy duty torque wrench to tighten down the spindle nut to 295 ft lbs.
I did my brk's and rotors lastnight and what a difference.. Truck stops better now and the new rotors seamed to be heavier. I went with bendix brk's and rotors.
I got these from the dealer:
The rotors are PN: BRR-120, a US made upgrade. $80.60 each.
The pads are: BRSD-1083 and say Ford super duty on the box. $83.52/set.
Maybe not FoMoCo, but the rotors were noticeably better, the pads don't dust, the truck stops better, and they have lasted twice as long as the OEM, and still going.
