emission flush
I have an 06 f150 and have an appointment to take it in and get a couple TSB's fixed plus get an emission flush that they recommend at 20,000 miles they also say it will improve gas mileage or they give you your money back.
Has anyone else had this done? If so was it worth the $150 they charge for it?
Thanks

Find another place to get the TSBs taken care of. There is NO such thing as an "Emission Flush". The only thing getting flushed is your money. Contact your BBB and check them out. What TSBs are they going to do? Have you checked out the TSBs here?; https://www.ford-trucks.com/tsb/fulltext/index.php
Bill at least we know the price of a "Emission Flush".

Ya the blinker fluid was a quart low so now my blinkers are running at the normal tick..tick sound instead of tick................tick they have been running at.
They are fixing a TSB for the plastic molding under the windshield wipers. It splits apart in the middle and rattles like crazy and then the other is for the squeaky back window. However since all they do for that according to the tsb is pull the plastic around the window back and put some grease around it ill just stick with my silicone spray so they don't break something else.
Ya I didn't understand them when they said its due for the emissions deal which is why I figured Id ask cause I figured it was money scam.

OK so when I went in to get the TSB's fixed I asked about the emissions deal and when the person was talking about it he was corrected by another employee its not a flush its a service. Which includes fuel injector cleaning, catalytic converter cleaning and clean out the fuel lines. Anyways the TSB on the plastic under the windshield wiper was a joke they wedged that plastic piece in so tight so that it doesnt pop up it now squeaks and rattles and grinds on the window!

I was witness to an impromptu "converter flush" once. It was so sad it was funny.
This poor guy old brought his Grand Marquis into a quickie oil change place next door to our shop to get his oil changed. They told him he needed a cooling system service and he agreed to let them do it. The oil was changed and then out the back door for the cooling system service. I can't remember the particular system they used, but it basically tee'd into the heater hoses and did a forced flush of the system.
Anyone who remembers the late 80's cars remembers the Air Injection systems which used, oddly enough, hoses that looks just like the heater hoses. You can see where this is going already, huh?
So this $4.50 an hour kid who was probably fresh out of 10th grade hooks the machine up to the air injection hoses and proceeds to pump about 2-3 gallons of coolant straight into the exhaust. He only stopped when we happened to notice coolant pouring out of the tail pipe. Of course we were already starting with the giggles. As soon as we saw green coming out we knew exactly what he did.
After disconnection of the machine and patching up the hose, they went to start the car. This was without consideration for the possibility that coolant may have entered the exhaust ports. Luckily enough, it didn't but the exhaust was so clogged up that they could barely get the car to fire over. Sort of a liquid potato in the tailpipe, so to speak.
Well, after about 45 minutes of fooling around they were finally able to get the car to start and run ok. The white smoke was absolutely horrific and of course all we could do was stand there and watch this poor kid working on what would be his last car. 3 hours and almost a 1/2 tank of fuel later, they managed to burn enough of the coolant out of the exahust to send the guy on his way, still smoking slightly.
I've never seen anything like that before but it was definitely one of the most memorable experiences I've ever had the pleasure to observe. I hope you find it as amusing as we did.

That reminds me of the time my father-in-law took his GMC truck to the local quickie oil change place for a transmission flush. They hooked up to the engine oil cooler lines and pumped the prescribed amount of ATF into his engine. My wife and I happened to be aproaching the establishment as he pulled out onto the road. Smoke was billowing out his tailpipe and he was leaving a trail of ATF on the road. We got him to stop and opened the hood. There was ATF everywhere. He went back and they put the correct oil in the engine, cleaned under the hood, and flushed the transmission. That was 8 years ago and the truck amazingly still runs ok.
