mileage life

I'm getting a '99 E-350 superduty cargo van with the 7.3 liter diesel. It has 200,000 miles on it and seems pretty strong. I'm wondering how many miles I should be able to expect out of it.

It depends on the maintenance of the engine...some guys here have 300,000+ miles on theirs.

Check the blow by - uncap the oil fill tube and if it smokes like freight train thats probably a good indication of oil burning pretty bad. The half life of these engines is 500,000 (at this number, a rebuild is probably required) and many outlast the trucks. the number one issue is maintenance, take good care of her and she'll return the favor. also another factor is if your buying it cheap, and only expect so many miles outta it? dont overpay for a high mileage vehicle - although the engine will most likely last you, its still up there and has the possibility of damage and failure. Goodluck , this is a great engine!
