The front bumper and mounts are gone from my 77 Highboy. It has been converted to a 78-79 front grille and I want the same year bumper for it.
What brackets would make that work? Does anyone have any pics of what to look for? I can fab, but I don't want to waste energy on something that has a bolt on solution.
And on a related note, does the bumper bolt directly to the frame horns on any 64 through 79 Ford truck?
I had the same problem,my truck came with a winch bumper up front. Hi boys had a bracket that bolted to the outside of the frame rails pointing out because the frames are narrower and the front leaf spring mount frame cross member I tried a couple different ways. First went to the bone yard to find used ones... no luck, cut the ends off a f150 frame to use as brackets too narrow ended up fabricating a set out of 1/4 strap and plate
The front of the frames are the same width, and the brackets do not have to point out. Spring perches are the same and any front axle from 73 to 79 will bolt right in. Only the 77.5 to 79 trucks had a wider frame in the rear but the front was the same. This makes the frames the same width
Here is a factory 73-77 bumper bracket used with a 79 bumper.
yes my 77 150 bolts to the frame i can put a yard stick on to see how whyed. can,t spell it. als
This did answer the second of my two questions.
I asked because a local guy with a LOT of Ford truck parts for sell tried to sell me a pre 78 bumper for my Highboy for a good price and he said it would bolt directly to the frame horns. He's a nice guy but I think he's just a little mixed up about Highboys.

Why keep looking?
I found the correct brackets NOS at a Ford dealer in Arizona.
