Thats a very good question, and it has many answers. In my area short beds fetch the big bucks, so destroying one is not the cool thing to do. The other side of this is that often the entire bed has to be cut, so even this would destroy a short bed. Typically these trucks are not assembled with nice pieces, they are assembled with some junk that does not make the grade or has some damage already. I pick up junk parts for almost free, and dont mind hanging a wrinkled fender on a truck that will eventually find itself upside down. These are not show vehicles, they play, and play hard. WHile I appreciate the guy that restores these things I too have a passion for these trucks, but my vision is a little different. Call it crazy, but I build all sorts of different things, and they typically revolve around the dentside body style. You will notice that I really love 79 trucks. Any year truck gets a 79 grille. If I had to choose between a double cheeseburger or a 79 grille shell, that day I would go hungry. I am not a little guy, so I can afford to miss a meal, but I will not pass up a 79 front end, lol.
Back on topic, the bedsides that we usually cut up, have either terrible rust, or have been wrecked somehow. See we cut so mush away that usually we cut out tha bad and what remains appears to be alright. At least that is until we roll the truck, or the mud simply tears a panel clean off. Then we head out to the junk yard, or find a wrecked truck, and find parts. They may not look pretty, but we keep these things alive, and you should see our numbers when we attack a mud hole. Darn dentside fords everywhere,
Kind of makes me smile.
See:
" YOU GET IT !!" I am not taking something worth restoring and destroying it,
I am using up left overs from my 78 Bronco build, which was going to be my main wheeling rig,
but it is turning out so nice I don't want to destroy it

I used my 76 for parts so this is whats left

but it has a great drive-train left in it with a strong running 390

so instead of junking it, I am going to build a very capable wheeler / mud buggy out of it
I did look over your photobucket page of dent-side ****, very nice indeed
, well I have to go for now, but I look forward to coming back to this thread,
thank you very much...Rick
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I had people on other forums telling me this was going to be hard to do,
some were saying the frames get wider behind the cab , blah.blah.blah, etc,
I don't have mine stripped down yet and won't be starting it until the spring time ,
so I was looking for pictures to prove them wrong and prove to them it can be done easily,
I was really getting perplexed at all the negativity that I was getting on this idea on other forums,
now I have had my issues with this site in the past,
but I am glad I decided to stop by and post this here..!!
because then along comes my new hero 75F350 (Ed) and just shut all those naysayers down,
I can't thank him enough, plus he has some pretty good ford **** there

I used to be a Chevy man but the doctor gave me some ointment to put on that and it went away

as you can see by my new tattoo I am now a FORD MAN ALL THE WAY!!

it is a tattoo of my own design so I think its the shiz-nit
I tried to clear it up a little bit so you could see it better?
here is my tattoo guys rendering

well I am really diggin this thread, lets keep it going, Thanks..Rick
That is absolutely correct sir.
It is 3" pipe, and it has a muffler. At that time it used an Ultra-flo round 16" 3"in to 3" out.
mine represents my love of building bad *** vehicals, and my new love of Fords,
I have a Dragon on my other shoulder that I got about 10 years ago that represents the demons in my life
I plan on getting a lot more and hopefully getting two full sleeves done
I am not sure I understand the computer comment? but hey. to each his own, no harsh feelings here if you don't care for it
Anyways good luck with your truck and when you start your project start a thread (probably in the offroad forum?) so we can watch your progress.
