Viper remote start/alarm

Ok im about to receive my 09 this week and i want to get a viper 5901 fitted but my local viper dealer wants an unreal amount of money for the alarm and silly money to fit it. Now would this thing be a good idea for me to try and fit?? I know a bit about electronics and electrical but i know nothing about truck wireing. Point me in the right direction for this as i dont want to f up my truck lol

Thanks

this would be a start, it's a tech sheet for an 08. I couldn't find an 09, but they should be similar.

PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT YES TRANSPONDER SEE NOTES
This vehicle is equipped with an IMMOBILIZER passive anti-theft system. Please refer to the security diagram before any remote start installation.
12 VOLTS Blue/red Ignition switch harness +
IGNITION White/orange Ignition switch harness +
ACCESSORY Violet/Green Ignition switch harness +
ACCESSORY 2 Brown/yellow Ignition switch harness +
STARTER Blue/white Ignition switch harness +
KEY SENSE Blue/gray Ignition switch harness +
TACH SIGNAL Blue In driver's kickpanel (loose wire) AC
May also be found in harness left of steering column.
LOCK Blue/green In driver's kickpanel -
UNLOCK Yellow/purple In driver's kickpanel -
DOORPIN Blue In harness from under driver seat +
BRAKESWITCH Violet/white At brake switch +
May also be Yellow/green in driver's kickpanel.
PARKLIGHTS Violet/white In driver's kickpanel +
HAND BRAKE White/violet In driver's kickpanel -
HORN Yellow/red Steering column -
CLUTCH SWITCH Blue/orange In driver's kickpanel

It looks shorter than any tech sheet I've worked with. Is this an alarm only or will be a RS/alarm? The RS portion adds a bit more wiring, but it's a nice feature to have. Over all if you can solder and use a DMM you can do the install.

Thanks reax. Yeah it's a RS/Alarm. Have a few other options at the moment but would ford be able to fit this seeings they would know where every wire is??

It depends on the installer. If they can only follow helms manuals and can't think wiring threw then no. If their installer is quick on his feet and knows about wiring and aftermarket accessories, it shouldn't be a problem. RS/Alarms should book out at 4-8 hours depending who's labor guide their using. An electronics/car stereo shop should be around 4hrs or under $250 for the install.

The installer working on it, probably hasn't done enough 2009s yet to have it memorized, but they should be able to dope it out rather quickly.

Most dealers hire out remote start/alarm installs to local stereo shops anyway, so you might want to make sure they aren't going to do that.

If you decide to install it yourself:

Take your time, find all the wires and test them/mark them before you start cutting.
Get a good multimeter and test light so you can test the wires.
Solder and tape or shrinkwrap all connections.
Try to hide the brain box as good as you can, and wrap all wiring in tape after everything is done so the wires are hard to get to if someone tries to disable the alarm.

On the test light, electronics in modern vehicles can be sensitive. A DMM has an incredibly high resistance so it will not harm anything. Test lights offer much lower resistance, and can draw too much current through a module. So use the test light sparingly. I have one, but it's very rare that I use it.
