My power window on the drivers door goes down but won't go up without pulling on it to assist the motor. I've got the door panel off and there doesn't appear to be anything visually wrong with the mechanism.
I noticed a large screw on top of the motor that might be some kind of adjustment (maybe a torque adjustment?). I was going to try turning the screw to see what happens.
Has anyone seen this problem? Does the motor need replacing?
Yes this is common, there are synthetic rollers inside the drive gearbox that crumble, these are cheap and relatively easy to replace but you have to remove the motor from the window. This involves drilling out 3 dimples in the sheet metal so you can get at the bolts that fasten the motor to the regulator. Be sure to prop up the window before removing the motor.
they should also have the rollers at autozone.. that is where I found them for my truck.. i think they were 4 bucks.. i've had them in there for 2 yrs now and so far they have been fine.. you also might want to grease the window regulator.. I greased both of mine and it made a huge difference in the up speed of the window..
Easy job, took just over a hour. Including installing rollers in gear box, and getting door panel back on better than new! helps to have someone with small hands to get motor in and out.
