I took my 2002 Excursion 7.3 in this weekend because it sounded like another CPS taking a you no what. Turned out to be a chip failure instead. Good news. Bad news during the test drive they rolled it over and it ended up on its top. What should I make them do to make sure all is well besides the body shop repair. Repair shop had a BAD day.
How about some more info. on this roll-over. What were the circumstances of the accident ? What was the approx. speed ? "Trip out" (sliding sideways into some irregularity on the road surface ?). Can you provide photograph of how the roof structure behaved ? Injuries, if any, and type ?
This could be an important safety - learning experience. Please help.
There's typically not much you can do to repair a rolled car. It can be done, sometimes, but it'll never be the same. Sadly the best chance you have is to get red book value. They won't buy you a new one, they'll say "here's a few hundred, good luck in finding another."
Usually an Excursion rollover results in A, B, C, & D pillars being bent. Doors will not fit right resulting in leaks and the list goes on. I would have them find you another one in the same shape as yours.
See what they offer and then if you don't like it hand it over to your insurance and they will go after them for the correct amount of money. Then you don't have to pay attorney fees and such....they will do that on their own(insurance company). If not your own then their insurance company will cover it but you should still have your insurance go to them!!
well, buying a new Excursion isn't going to get you anywhere... let alone another 7.3l as they are not as easy to find as 6.0's. The dealer can't risk buying a truck for you and then you saying months down the road it's not as good as your old one.
I bet you'll get book value out of them.
But if your chip was found to be causing the issue that caused the crash, then they can sue you.

Was this an after-market chip or the stock PCM?
Subscribing, because I'm interested in what the final resolution will be!!
Sounds like someone testing it had never played in an ex before and got carried away.
Let us know what they offer.
I worry about mine getting totaled in a wreck (due to someone else) because I would get just low book and thats not right. Its paid for and I have it for a reason and think it should be replaced with equal. (a girl can dream cant she?) a few thousand could never pay back all I have into it and the replacement of something like it.

I've got a little experience with this with other vehicles. My carrier finds vehicles for sale in the area with like options and mileage, then gets an average from those figures.
I totalled a '97 F-150 in May 2005 when a kid turned left in front of me . I paid $7800 for it in October 2003, and mileage went from 102xxx when I bought it to 147xxx at time of accident. Insurance paid me $9500 (part of this was refund of premium and VLF).
