I will recommend the Stihl 290. My 290 is a great saw, have had it for a few years now and still cutting strong.
It's a great all around saw. Like I said before, our family has 3 of them and they have been great.
I also know of some pros that use the 290 and 310 for most everything except the really big stuff. Stihl only rates them as medium use, but they are more than enough for 90% of what anyone does.
I am looking for the rotten string of profane syllables that stole my Husqvarna 55 rancher this fall. I bought it about 9 years ago, liked it and then didn't like it until I started sharpening my own chains, and then I LOVED IT!. That thing would cut 2 inch ribbons off and get through 2 feet of any tree I found in seconds.
For the guy that said his saw didn't cut straight, the bar needs to be trued. When one side of the channel the chain rides in wears faster than the other it will tilt the chain ever so slightly and cut a curved line. Have it ground even or get a new bar.
Learn to sharpen your chain with a file, I do it by hand in minutes. It's cheaper than paying someone $4 a shot to do it, it's faster, and you get a better result than having someone do it on one of those power sharpeners.
I am definitely buying another Husky. Gonna get a 20" bar this time tho.
HOLY CRAP. I forgot all about this thread. Thank you everyone for all the helpful posts! The new saw will have to wait until probably spring now, no job=no money=no saw. Thanks for all the suggestions.
Well....Anyways I've got a 15-20 year old Sachs-Dolmar 112 w/20" bar i can remember my grandad using it when i was young...the dang thing still runs awesome and cuts like crazy......These are very good chainsaws!
Its never had anything but a rebuilt carb and new chains!
