Windshield washer spray nozzle problem or dealer problem?

After reading the gentleman's problem with the dealer in Alberta, I almost scrapped my idea to write this post, but it will point out how wide the range of problems can be.

The set-up: When I got the van new in '06, one of the features I noticed was that the windshield washer nozzles covered the glass with fluid from left to right, all the way across. I hate a grubby windshield and I really appreciated the full coverage and quick clean-up accomplished.

Sometime later I started noticing that the right nozzle pattern had changed and was putting all the fluid in a "pile" less than a foot wide, requiring way more fluid to clean the center-right side of the glass. No more squirt/wipe/clean!

When I had van in to have the 35,000 mile transmission service and other things done I asked them to replace the nozzle. They had ordered it in previously for me and they said the part was there.

I did not check the washer before I left the dealer, but when I did need to use it, I noticed the spray pattern was just like before. Earlier I had found a screw not tightened in the cowl piece that holds the nozzles and I assumed the nozzle had been replaced. Now I am not so sure.

I guess I can't complain, there was no charge, but this was the second time I asked them to take a look at the problem (first was when they ordered the part) and at that visit the technician said "Yeah, its working!"

This dealer is closer than any other. Until now I have been satisfied with their work. I did not buy this van from them, but have sent others to them for work. I really don't want to be a jerk, but the fact remains that the job isn't getting done like it was when new and I can't see any visible reason for it (junk in nozzle).

Should I call them on it? Should I just get a nozzle elsewhere and do it myself (it's still under warranty)? Are these nozzles problematic? Older vehicles have never done as nice a job as this did when new, nor as poor a job as now.

I know this is a simple thing, but if I was told it would be taken care of and it wasn't, I can't take any more of my business there. If it wasn't done, I should have been told.

I know this is not a world shattering event, so please keep that in mind. Just wondering what you think.

Have you tried to stick a needle or pin in the nozzle to try to correct the problem?

Actually, yes

I also pulled supply hose off and backflushed with air, then water when air didn't work.

Checking this sort of stuff is the job of the dealer that sells the unit. It is covered under the pre delivery charges. I dont blame the dealer that you didnt buy it from for not being too worried about it. Its really not their problem and you shouldnt try to make it one for them. gezz

And I am sure they did so. It worked fine for several months, maybe a year.

The problem I am having with what you said is that I didn't buy a private label vehicle from a dealer far away, I bought a Ford. The local Ford dealer is small, by today's standards, very small, and must rely on any business it can get. If I can't get a simple problem taken care of, with or without charge then how can I plan on buying from them when it comes time to do so?
I would not have been against paying if it wasn't covered, as long as the charge was reasonable...and they have been reasonable on other work I have had them do for me.

Oh, you might have missed the fact that the van is a Quigley. There are just a handful of selling dealers nationwide; you wouldn't expect me to drive 350 miles for service, would you?

Most likely when the thing got washed at the car wash something buggered it up. That would make it customer damage and not something under warranty.Or maybe some road dirt got into it etc.
