Doug- we went mutual aid with a tanker into our neighboring district for a structure fire Sunday afternoon. It turned out to be a house fire and by the time the first units got on scene (within8 minutes of dispatch) it was a basement fire because of high winds and that it was fully engulfed when a passerby called it in. It turned into a 'surround and drown' and fortunatly the owners were not there, but out of town on vacation. I sure would hate to get a call like that.

It is a shame to loose a structure but it is always great when no one gets hurt.
I look at it like this. There was no saving it due to the fire load,,,,,, the adjacent garage and other structures were saved,,,,,,, no one got hurt,,,,, and lastly, the house can be rebuilt. The only thing that can not be replaced are irrepalceable personal items.
On a side note..... I was at one of our neighboring departments last night to drop off some paperwork. I was talking with the chief and one of the assistants. The Chief asked me if I was planning on getting back 'in line' next year. I told him that I was planning on running for chief and he said that it would be a good move for the department. It just lets me know what other departments think about the current white hat.
It is always nice to have earned the respect of your neighboring companies. Most fire departments, like it or not are judged by the actions of the Chief.

Oh how true of a statement that is.
This department that I was at is the one department that I would transfer to if things ever got way out of control in mine. They are also our automatic mutaul aid for structure fires,,,,, great group of guys and gals.
Yes Neil. I have big fingers and hit caps by mistake. Yes it has been a fairly busy night. Fortunatly nothing serious. Just usual college student activity.
